Meenakshi Lekhi is an Indian politician and lawyer. She is the MP from New Delhi constituency and the national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party. She is also the vice-president of the Mahila Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Meenakshi Lekhi started her political career in 2010 when she became the National Vice-President of ‘BJP Mahila Morcha’. In May 2014, she defeated Ajay Maken by 270,000 votes and was elected as a member of the 16th Lok Sabha in the New Delhi constituency. On June 12, 2014, she was elected as a member of the House Committee. She also served as a member of the Urban Development Standing Committee. On July 20, 2016, Leahy served as Chairman of the Privileges Committee. In July 2017, she was awarded the “Best First Time Woman MP” award at the “Lokmat Parliament Awards”. In the same year, she became a member of the Press Council of India. In December 2017, while discussing the triple talaq bill in Parliament, Lexi demanded severe punishment for religious leaders who support and promote the process of talaq-i-biddat (triple talaq). In the 16th Lok Sabha, Meenakshi participated in around 125 events. debate, raised 435 questions and introduced 20 private member’s bills in the Lok Sabha (as of the last budget session of 2019). In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she won the New Delhi seat defeating Congress MP Ajay Makan.
She was sworn in as the Union Minister of State on July 7, 2021, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reconstituted Council of Ministers.

- Meenakshi sparked controversy after he allegedly revealed the name of the victim in the Tarun Tejpal rape case through a tweet. However, she later clarified that she did not send the tweet but that someone misused her phone.

- Leahy has reignited controversy after her sexist slur against Ishrat Jahan during a televised debate. Several women signed a letter asking Leahy to apologize for her comments and sent the letter to the National Council on Women.
- In 2015, Raishi got into a spat with actress Dia Mirza over RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks about Mother Teresa. While Leahy backed Bhagwat’s remarks and claimed Mother Teresa admitted in interviews that her goal was to convert people to Christianity, Mirza, whose father was a Catholic, lashed out at the leader.
- On April 12, 2009, Meenakshi filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court accusing Rahul Gandhi of using the term “Chowkidar Chor Hai” against Narendra Modi and misinterpreting it Supreme Court’s rejection in Rafale deal.
