Megan Fox Says She's 'Not Trying to Get Anyone Canceled' by Writing About Past Abusive Partners in Book

The actress said that the men who abused her in past relationships are “irrelevant” and that the book of poetry is her processing of her own experiences

Megan Fox examines past traumatic relationships in her new book of poetry – but says she’s not trying to “cancel” anyone.

The actress appeared on stage at Racket NYC on Tuesday night to talk about Nice guys are toxic with moderator Samantha Leach, Stareeditor in chief. During a wide-ranging conversation, which included questions from the audience, Fox, 37, said she put everything on the table for this collection of poetry since she currently has no plans to write more books.

“I can’t control how other people react to my art.” she said, adding: “I had to write it for myself. It could sell five copies or 5 million copies, [it doesn’t matter] … I had to do it for myself.”

Some of the songs presented in Nice guys are toxic details physical and emotional abuse from Fox’s past relationships, though he doesn’t name names. Why not? As Fox says, the men who hurt her are “irrelevant,” and this is instead for women who have survived similar scenarios.

“For once it should be about me,” said Fox, who also expressed “frustration” that she feels she can’t be completely vulnerable and honest because her celebrity status opens her up to being “separated.”

“I’m not trying to get anybody to cancel,” she said. “I’m not karma.” Fox also later added, “You’ll never fire me because I’m not a bad person… You can try.”

Fox said that reflecting on her past pain for the book “wasn’t easy” – and that she “had to pull it back” on some of her “savage” songs. I was surprised at how much I had lived through, she said.

Also during the discussion, Fox said she is now “disillusioned” with the concept of love she grew up fantasizing about: “I want to believe, but I don’t know if I can anymore,” she said, adding that it’s an “existential crisis” of hers.

The Jennifer’s body the actress is engaged to musician Machine Gun Kelly, who supported her by promoting the new book on Instagram, writing “my lady fell out”.

Of the book, Fox recently told PEOPLE that “some of it is literal, while other parts are allegorical,” but “it’s all something that women can relate to.”

“Relationships are complicated. For most of us, it’s not a fairy tale. Relationships aren’t pretty. They’re ugly. Sometimes they’re a war,” she said. “But through the wound comes the opportunity to grow and become a stronger, more whole version of yourself.”

She also said Good morning America this week that she had previously been involved in violent relationships with “very famous people” which had never been made public.

“This is not an exposé that I wrote or a memoir… But throughout my life I have been in at least one physically abusive relationship and several very psychologically abusive relationships,” she said. GMA.

She added: “I’ve only been associated with a few people publicly, but I’ve shared energy with, I guess you could say, who have been horrible people. And also very famous – very famous people. But no one knows that I was in a relationship with these people.”
