Michael Keaton's SNL Monologue Sees Andy Samberg, Mikey Day as Beetlejuices, While Alec Baldwin Returns for Cold Open

Michael Keaton was joined by some spooky characters during his Saturday night live monologue!

The actor, 73, hosted the Oct. 19 episode of the comedy series, where he was joined by Billie Eilish as the musical guest.

During the opening monologue, Keaton talked about his latest film Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice — the sequel to Tim Burton’s 1998 film bug juice in which he also starred. He noted that with Halloween coming up, he’ll be seeing a lot of kids dressed as his character from Beetlejuice, which he admitted is “cute.”

He then added that he would also likely see “a lot of grown men dressed like Beetlejuice, usually guys in their 40s, which is less attractive.”

At that point, cast member Mikey Day appeared on stage next to Keaton dressed as Beetlejuice, prompting him to utter his famous line from the original 1998 film: “It’s show time.”

While the actor claimed that he no longer remembers how he originally said the phrase, Andy Samberg entered the frame on his other side, also dressed as Beetlejuice and doing his best impression of the character.

Keaton later noted that Samberg, 46, usually appears during the 50th season in the show’s opening trailers, in a cameo role as Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff.

“Yeah, the writers couldn’t bother him this week, so we got together,” Samberg explained.

While Emhoff didn’t appear in this week’s cold open, that sketch saw the return of another familiar face to SNL, in the form of Alec Baldwin.

This time, the actor didn’t play former President Donald Trump, but played Fox News anchor Brett Baier in a hilarious reenactment of Baier’s Oct. 16 interview with Harris, 60, played by Maya Rudolph.

Introducing himself as Baier to the crowd’s delight, Baldwin then added, “let’s get this straight, yeah, I look like someone turned Minecraft businessman,” before Rudolph’s Harris joined him on stage for a sit-down chat.

Keaton’s guest appearance this weekend marked his fourth SNL. He first hosted in October 1982, before returning to Studio 8H in November 1992 and April 2015. He also appeared in a cameo episode in April 2019.

SNL is currently in the midst of its landmark 50th season, which began its first episode on September 28 with Jean Smart as host and Jelly Roll as musical guest. Other presenters and musical guests so far have been Nate Bargatze with Coldplay and Ariana Grande with Stevie Nicks.
