Baltimore Orioles owner John Angelos has agreed to sell his franchise to the Carlyle Group, run by two billionaire venture capitalists, David Rubenstein and Mike Arougheti. The deal was agreed upon for the Orioles at $1.7 billion. The group will start with about 40% of the club.
The group will buy the remaining stake after the death of Peter Angelos. MLB owners will meet in Orlando next week to hammer out details of the sale. Rubenstein, born in Baltimore, has been tied to the job for months. Under the contract, he will become the control person for the Orioles.
