Mirror Kpop accident
MIRROR, a Hong Kong boy band, suffered a tragic accident during one of their concerts that attracted international attention. On July 28, 2022, during the fourth performance of their 12 scheduled concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum, a large hanging video screen collided with two of the group’s members, Moses “Mo” Li Kai-yin and Chang Tsz-fung.
The impact of the accident left Moses Li in critical condition, while Chang Tsz-fung sustained injuries. As a result, the performance was abruptly ended and the remaining concert dates were canceled to allow for the recovery of the affected members. This incident not only affected the band, but also had a profound effect on their fans and the music scene in Hong Kong.
After the accident, MIRROR and their team took time to regroup and reassess their future plans. Over the next nine months, they dealt with the aftermath of the incident while also dealing with the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic. Despite these obstacles, the group decided to release their first English single, “Rumours”, on March 17.
“Rumours” marked a significant departure from MIRROR’s usual Cantonese-pop style, showing their versatility and desire to expand their musical horizons. The song featured crisp, sonorous bass lines and a mix of singing, rapping and group singing. Accompanied by a James Bond-inspired music video, the members of MIRROR showed their maturity and confidence as they donned stylish suits and high-end spy gear to pull off a mysterious heist.
For MIRROR, “Rumours” represents a new era for the group and a step forward in their musical journey. Despite the challenges they faced and the process of healing from the accident, the members expressed their determination to get back on their feet and return to the stage. They boasted about the support they received from their fans and emphasized their readiness to work and perform once more.
The accident that happened during the MIRROR concert was a tragic event that deeply affected the group and their fans. However, it also served as a catalyst for the band’s resilience and their commitment to reclaiming the spotlight. Through their music and unwavering determination, MIRROR strived to overcome the obstacles they faced and continue to pursue their passion for performing.
