The suspect, who was trying to leave the store, appears to have been knocked out by a punch.
The drama, which is believed to have taken place in a US store last year, has since gone viral, garnering nearly 5 million views.
CCTV footage shows a security guard trying to stop the person from leaving the store.
The suspect, who was carrying a large rucksack, began to push the supermarket trolley towards the guard.
He appeared to be slowly approaching the exit when a worker threw a bottle of coke at him. The suspect then collapsed to the floor.
The video has since been shared on X (Twitter) by @DonutOperator, with the caption: “Thief knocked out with Coke bottle tomahawk.”
Some users praised the worker’s vigilance. One posted: “This must be the first response in all shoplifting cases.”
Another said: “The term ‘sweet justice’ has never been more appropriate..”
However, others suggested the worker could face disciplinary action or even dismissal.
One user suggested that the suspect who had been knocked out could now take legal action against the trade.
