Nallu Indrasena Reddy is an Indian social activist, politician and former member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He served three times as a Member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly (MLA). He made headlines in October 2023 when he was appointed by the Indian government as the 20th Governor of Tripura.

Nallu Indrasena Reddy was born on Thursday, January 1, 1953 (age 70; as of 2023) in Ganugabanda village, Suryapet district, Madras state (now Telangana), India. His zodiac sign is Capricorn. He studied from grades 1 to 5 in the government primary school at Pasnur, Andhra Pradesh (now in Telangana). Thereafter, he attended Keshav Memorial High School, Narayanguda, Hyderabad, where he completed his science course. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in 1972 from Government City College, Hyderabad. He received his Master’s degree in Mathematical Sciences from Osmania University, Hyderabad, in 1974. While in school, Nalu joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). There he worked as a Pracharak for several years. Nallu became involved in student politics in 1968 when he became a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He later became the state president of ABVP. He remained a member of the organization until 1969. In 1977, he joined the Jayaprakash Narayan movement and participated in several protests organized in different parts of the country during the movement. In an interview, he talked about the beginning of his political career, saying:
I have been a member of ABVP since 1968, 69, and before that I was an RSS student. After the Emergency in 1975, I was arrested in Mesa and jailed. I became a participant in the movement started by Loknaik Jayaprakash in 1977. I serve as the state president of the student wing of the People’s Party. “
He also revealed that he was imprisoned for a year under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) during the Emergency in 1975 during the tenure of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He also served as the national secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJYM).
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
Nallu Indrasena Reddy became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980. He initially held the position of activist (karyakrta) in the party. However, he started getting appointments after helping the party establish a stronghold in India’s southern states. In 2003, he became the president of the Andhra Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party; he served until 2007. In 2014, he took over as the national secretary of the party.
The BJP later extended a special invitation to him to join the party’s national committee. He also served as the party’s national vice-president.

Nallu Indrasena Reddy was first elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1983. He contested the election on a BJP ticket from Malakpet constituency. He went on to contest for the state assembly from Malakpet constituency in 1985 and 1999 and won. In the 1985 elections, he defeated his nearest rival, Chief Minister Nadendla Bhaskara Rao, by a margin of 17,791 votes. After winning the 1999 elections, he was appointed leader of the Legislative Assembly by the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2004, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Nalgonda constituency; however, he was defeated by Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, the candidate of the Communist Party of India (CPI), by a margin of 56,151 votes . In the 2009 general election, he was defeated by Indian National Congress candidate Sarvey Sathyanarayana in Malkajigiri constituency. He lost the 2014 Lok Sabha elections to Boora Narsaiah Goud, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (formerly known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi) candidate from Bhongir constituency. After losing in 2014, he withdrew from the race.
