However, it will be the last of the sci-fi series as bosses have confirmed they have scrapped it.

The movie 3 Body Problem stars Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao and Liam Cunningham.

Its plot shows how Rosalind’s character reacts to alien contact at a secret military base camp.

But this has ramifications for the present day as scientists are forced to confront humanity’s greatest threat.

In a statement, the showrunners said: “We are thrilled to be able to tell this story to its epic conclusion.

“Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped to be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Let’s go!”

The Hollywood Reporter claims that bosses originally wanted Netflix to greenlight four series.

It is not clear how many episodes the second and final season will have – or when filming will begin.

Reacting to the news, one fan said: “Renewed means what were they thinking when they left us hanging with the first season?”

Another wrote: “Thinking through? So just one more season? Even though the books are a trilogy?”

“Oh, all right. If you’re definitely inferring that, then I’ll watch it. Not to be rammed like 1899 again,” said a third.
