Nicole Kidman’s Cardigan and Maxi Skirt Will Beat the Summer Heat — but Keep You Cozy Indoors

I always followed the rules. But Nicole Kidman inspires me to wean off – or rather, undo – some fads.

June 11 Cancellation the actress wore a cozy cardigan and a matching maxi skirt, a combination that, to be honest, I never even thought of opting for in the summer. Something in my brain wants to keep cardigans especially for fall. (That’s probably because I listen to a lot of Taylor Swift in the colder months). But after a break, the two together are actually brilliant for both fighting the heat and staying comfortable in heavily air-conditioned buildings.

A cardigan is lighter than a thick wool turtleneck, so it won’t be a source of sweat while commuting or on your lunch break outside. But it will also prevent goosebumps as the cold air hits your skin indoors. The same goes for the maxi skirt, which will pick up the breeze and move fluidly, while also covering your legs like a blanket.

And cardigans and maxi skirts were also worn by celebrities: last year, Kidman Big little lies Costar Reese Witherspoon also wore a cardigan over the summer, while maxi skirts appeared on Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez and Meg Ryan.

In my opinion, cardigans are also made for travel: airplanes are always hot when everyone boards, but then they get ridiculously cold mid-flight. A button-up cardigan, like this one from Merokeety, is easy to put on and take off, and you don’t have to awkwardly lift your arms to take it off. It’s also longer and feels like it will cover my bottom – my personal preference – and has pockets that I can stuff with my headphones or hand sanitizer.

Maxi skirts are also suitable for travelling, as they prevent your legs from touching dirty seats on public transport and will be more comfortable to sit in than a pair of skinny jeans. And the maxi skirt you choose doesn’t have to match the cardigan completely: this Scarlet Darkness find is a darker chocolate color and has more layers.
