Owen Wilson just landed a new role and he has his hair to thank.
The actor, 55, is the new “Chief Shampoo Officer” (yes, that’s his official title!) for hair and body care brand California Naturals (he’s also an investor and advisor).
“I’m excited to evaluate everything from product manufacturing (happily lending myself as a guinea pig for new formulas) to campaigns and bigger decisions to grow the company,” Wilson tells PEOPLE of her role.

“We’re so thrilled that Owen is a fan of our products, and having him more involved with the brand is a dream come true, as we think he perfectly embodies the laid-back, approachable spirit of California Naturals (not to mention his great hair!),” says brand founder Shelby Wild .
To launch the partnership, Wilson shot a hilarious GRWM-esque ad where he shares his hair routine and hangs out with Waffles the dog (more on him below).

We spoke to Wilson about the partnership, the challenges of being a natural blonde and the role of his dream hair. What made you want to work with California Naturals?
It’s actually my first time endorsing a brand here in the US, and I guess we can’t take that decision lightly. I think people like a product that does what it says it will do, and a brand that does good things and is run by good people. And luckily, California Naturals has all of those qualities. Becoming a hair influencer wasn’t necessarily on my career wish list, but I’m proud to add it to my resume.”
You have one of the best hairstyles in Hollywood — we’re surprised you weren’t invited to do a hair campaign sooner!
I’m flattered, thank you. And yes, sometimes it feels like my hair enters the room before me… plus you add the expectation that blondes will have more fun… and we’re talking a lot of pressure on your shampoo and conditioner. Fortunately, California Naturals rises to the challenge and always seems to get the job done.

You and your hair have starred in many films. Does your hair have a dream role?
I guess I do Hair on Broadway would be her dream role. And to be honest, my hair and I don’t always see eye to eye in our careers. I wanted to do Uninvited guests at weddingsbut my hair really held up to do the remake Shampoo. Have you seen Color more? The wig they did for that film is a work of art and really helped me get into the character, but I’m not sure anyone is going to run to the salon looking for a perm to recreate it. I would also say Zoolander he was by a hair’s breadth in his career, in terms of his performance, he surpassed mine. It’s interesting to look back and see how the stylist’s creative direction can really work for the role: the slicked-back look in Hotel Grand Budapestthere was a buzz Bottle Rocket. Hats off to these pros who can actually create a costume using a comb!

Have you ever had to be afraid for a role and what was that experience like?
Go gray (with the help of a wig) for Loki it was definitely an experience, and I’m sure I’ll get to experience it in “real life” at some point – for better or for worse! Do you prefer blow drying or air drying?
If I’m not on set, the day is dry in the air. Everything else is beyond my skills and best left to the professionals.
When styling your hair for the red carpet, what’s your go-to stylist?
“Surprise me.” Wait, no. Don’t surprise me. Actually, just read my mind. Which means the end result will hopefully resemble my hair on a “normal day”, i.e. let the strands fall where they may.
We love that your dog Waffles is in the ad. What qualified him for the role?
My dog is the star of the commercial! He (and I) wouldn’t have it any other way. He has a good nose for great scents and likes bergamot and eucalyptus [formula]. He raised two paws.
