Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward’s Longtime N.Y.C. Penthouse That Was 'Their Romantic Spot’ Listed for $10 Million

A piece of Hollywood history has hit the market!

Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward’s longtime New York penthouse, with two bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, is listed for $9.95 million, with $13,078 in monthly maintenance. Noble Black by Douglas Elliman and co-star Jennifer Stillman holds the list.

According to The New York Timesthe sale of the Carnegie Hill apartment is being handled by the couple’s children on behalf of Woodward, 94, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2007. She and Newman were married for 50 years before he died in 2008 at the age of 83.

“It was really their romantic place. They would spend weeks on the cob there. They would go to the theater or the opera or have dinner with friends,” said their daughter Clea Newman Soderlund The New York Times.

The Penthouse is located in a full-service co-op built in 1925 with a 24-hour doorman, live-in manager, fitness center and bike room.

As explained in the listing, it boasts views of Central Park and the reservoir and includes a sun-drenched living room with a wood-burning fireplace at one end and a hidden bar at the other.

Surrounded by huge windows and glass doors, it connects to the dining room with eastern exposure and detailed moldings.

Behind the room there is a butler’s pantry with a window, a large kitchen with a dining room and a terrace facing the park. A half bath, staff room/laundry room and utility room complete the area.

The primary suite is located to the left of the hall, with its own terrace, wardrobe and basic bathroom. The second bedroom has southern exposure and an adjacent full bathroom.

“My mother wanted a patio for the dogs, so they could go outside — that was the main goal,” Soderlund said The New York Times. “They ended up getting this outstanding property that overlooks the park and the reservoir, and they got the sunrise and the sunset.”

According to the release, some of the A-listers who have visited the penthouse during Newman and Woodward’s many parties include Tom Cruise, Cher, Harry Belafonte, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.
