Profession
Chasing the perfect cup: from humble beginnings to beloved tea empire
Prafull’s journey to becoming the mastermind behind the highly successful MBA Chai Wala franchise has been anything but smooth. Despite his best efforts and countless sleepless nights, he couldn’t pass his MBA exam; however, he refused to let this setback define him and instead took a job as a steward at McDonald’s in 2017. It wasn’t long before he was promoted to cashier, but Praful knew deep down that he was destined for something. More important than working for someone else. Driven by his passion for tea, which had been his comforting companion during his CAT preparation days, Prafull decided to quit his job at McDonald’s and start his own tea business. He borrowed Rs. Worried that his parents would disapprove of his decision to sell tea, he got $8,000 from his father under the guise of attending a short course and opened a tea stall in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in 2017.
On the first day at the makeshift tea stall, things didn’t go as planned and not a single customer showed up, but Praful refused to give up and came up with a new strategy. He started talking to customers in English, which piqued their interest in English-speaking Chai Wala and his unique tea blends. While juggling her father’s expectations for an MBA with her own passion for tea, Prafull found herself at a crossroads. Ultimately, he chose to follow his heart and left the MBA program to pursue his dream of creating the best tea in India. Prafull worked tirelessly to experiment with different chai milk blends and flavors until he achieved the perfect blend, which made him the famous founder of Mr. Billore Ahmedabad Chai Wala Franchise, popularly known as MBA Chai Wala.
