The couple had a three-year-old daughter, Sienna, in 2021, but Edoardo also has a son from a previous relationship, Christopher Woolf, known as Wolfie, eight years old.

Buckingham Palace announced the happy news on Tuesday alongside a picture of loved ones Bea and Ed.

In a statement, they said: “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce that they are expecting their second child together in early spring; a sibling for Wolfie, eight, and Sienna, three.”

A cute rare shot of Edoardo with kids Wolfie and Sienna walking through the woods was also part of the announcement.

The palace said King Charles, Beatrice’s uncle, was “thrilled”.

It added: “His Majesty the King has been informed and both families are delighted at the news.”

The soon-to-be new edition would be the late queen’s 13th great-grandson – but it won’t be Croatian.

The baby will be born 11th in line to the throne, with Beatrice’s younger sister Princess Eugenie dropping to 12th.

Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, celebrated the news of her daughter on her Instagram profile.

Alongside a series of sweet photos, Fergie wrote: “A very proud GiGi/Mum today. Such an amazing blessing and a hug to my heart.

“Wolfie, August, Ernie and Sienna will be thrilled to pick out a fifth member out of the five of them!”

A longer statement read: “Dear Beatrice. Words cannot quite express the joy and excitement I feel as you and Edo prepare to welcome another precious addition to your beautiful family.

“Becoming a grandmother again fills my heart with so much happiness and gratitude.

“Watching you grow as a mother has been one of the greatest privileges of my life, and now it’s an absolute blessing to see your family continue to flourish.

“Our family is growing, and so is the love that surrounds us.

“I can’t wait to meet this little one and share all the wonderful memories we will make together. All my love.”

The happy news comes during one of the royal family’s most personally challenging years, with the King, Princess of Wales and Beatrice’s mother Sarah, Duchess of York, all diagnosed with cancer.

Sarah was treated for malignant melanoma skin cancer in January, just months after a mastectomy for breast cancer.

Prince Harry will speak privately, royal expert claims

By Ryan Merrifield

In light of the news of Beatrice’s pregnancy, royal expert Phil Dampier told The Sun: “Well, there is good news for the royal family at last.

“It’s been a very difficult few months, what with the King and Princess of Wales being treated for cancer.

“And of course, all the ongoing issues with Prince Harry.

“So this is great news and good news for the royal family. It would give everyone a boost.”

Beatrice’s mum Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of Sussex, is also recovering from a cancer scare last year.

Mr Dampier said: “She seems to be doing well now which is great news for the family and I’m sure they will be absolutely delighted.

“The Queen, the late Queen Elizabeth, always said that despite some of her faults, and she had some faults, or has some faults, Sarah, Duchess of York, that she was always a great mother, and she admired her as a mother and I think she probably passed that on to both her daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie.”

He believes that Harry will contact him privately to congratulate him.

Despite his strained relationship with his family, he always remained close to the York sisters.

“I’m sure privately, and probably publicly, Harry will be sending his love and congratulations to Beatrice and her husband,” Mr Dampier said.

“They get on well. They’ve managed to stay on good terms, despite the problems between William and Harry and the King and Harry.”

He said Beatrice and Eugenie probably feel “a bit stuck in the middle”.

He also believes that a new grandchild on the horizon will remind the king that he has no relationship with Harry and Meghan’s children Archie and Lilibet.

“I’m sure the King wants him to have a relationship with Archie and Lily… it goes without saying that he’d like to see them more often and he’d like to have a better relationship with Harry.

“But I think that will take time. And in the meantime, he’ll obviously be happy about the new addition to the family.”

But Beatrice said in May that the duchess was “all clear”.

Beatrice married multimillionaire entrepreneur Edoardo in July 2020.

The couple met in September 2018, about a month before Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank on October 12.

And they announced their engagement on September 26, 2019 – a year after meeting.
