Priscilla Presley Details Her Reaction to Elvis’ Affairs and the ‘Vulgar’ Time He Signed a Fan’s Breast

Priscilla Presley looks back on her love life with Elvis Presley – and how “every girl went after him”.

During Saturday’s ‘An Evening with Priscilla Presley’ event at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Connecticut, the 78-year-old actress reflected on some of the highlights of her and Elvis’ relationship, as well as some of the difficult aspects of their romance.

“Whether he was on tour or in Palm Springs or Vegas, obviously I know there are other things going on,” Priscilla said at the event, before adding that she had discovered a letter for Elvis in their mailbox describing that are the “best times” with him when he was on the road.

“When I found that letter, it just ate at me,” she added of her ex-husband, to whom she was married from 1967 to 1973.

“I just couldn’t let it go so I called Elvis in Vegas, [road manager] Joe Esposito answered the phone and I said ‘Joe, I need to talk to Elvis, please’. He said ‘He’s sleeping, what do you need? Is everything all right?’ I said ‘No, not really. I just really need to talk to him.’

After Priscilla confirmed to Esposito that she found the letter she was “not happy about,” Elvis eventually answered and asked his partner if she had “sniffed” it, to which she replied, “No, I just opened the mailbox and there are were those letters.”

“That was the beginning,” she said. “He wasn’t happy about it, but I wasn’t happy either. That’s when I realized things were going on. Listen, there was him and four or five of his guys who were always together, so they’re men, right? And they all were married and everyone was screwing each other.”

“I mean, the opportunities were there all the time,” Priscilla later added. “All the time. Even when he would go on tour in other states, they knew he was coming and they would make offers… And don’t get me wrong. I never liked Elvis, like, until today. He was an amazing human being. He had a great heart, but, unfortunately, he was Elvis Presley and every woman, every girl went after him. I can see that he, how would he accept it.”

During Saturday’s event, Priscilla also touched on Elvis’ correspondence with Anita Wood, the actress he began dating before he went abroad to Germany. As Priscilla explained, she wondered if he was “still with” Wood when she found “a bunch of letters” from her.

I was hurt, she recalled. “God, is this still going on and what am I doing here? So I asked Elvis about her and he asked how I know about her and I said well ‘Hi, I can read.’ He said she was a very good friend and ‘Yes, I care about her, but I realized I’m not in love with her.’ I said, ‘OK, that’s a lot of letters,’ so I was worried about Anita.”

“I thought he would see her again when he returned to America, and he must have because it was in the newspaper, she was waiting for him there, and that bothers me a lot,” she said.

The actress then said that Elvis told her that he would be seeing “a lot of girls” in the media and that the media would say he was dating them.

“He was a little upset and I said, ‘I got it,'” she continued.

Elsewhere in Priscilla’s discussion with interviewer Christian Printup, VP of entertainment at Foxwoods, she described her first impressions of Elvis – who she was told not to watch on TV because he was “vulgar and gross”. However, she said that she will still watch him perform The Ed Sullivan Show through the “doorway”.

“And I thought ‘Boy, who was this guy?’ He was so beautiful and the way he moved – of course he was criticized for his moves and it was vulgar, and, oh my God, the news went ballistic.”

There was also the point where Priscilla once considered her actions “vulgar”, when a friend showed her a picture in a magazine of her future partner signing a fan’s breast.

“When she opened the magazine, Elvis was signing autographs on women’s breasts. I was so appalled,” Priscilla said. “I thought, ‘Oh my God, that’s so terrible, that’s so vulgar, I can’t believe it’.”

Priscilla sat down at a similar event in November in Las Vegas, during which she appeared to confirm rumors that she had vowed not to marry again as long as her ex-husband Elvis Presley was alive.

“I just don’t think he could handle it,” she said.

Despite the fact that Elvis died in 1977, Priscilla kept that promise for the past four decades. “To be honest, I never wanted to get married after him. I never had the desire – she said. “No one could match him.”

During the conversation, the actress also explained why she and Elvis never had another child after daughter Lisa Marie was born in 1968. “Elvis felt he had a very busy schedule and felt a little guilty that he wasn’t around a lot when Lisa was younger,” she said. “With his schedule and touring, he just felt like he wasn’t around enough to pay a lot of attention to have another child.”

Saturday’s event comes months after she accompanied granddaughter Riley Keough to the 2023 Emmy Awards in January, where Keough was up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series for Daisy Jones and six.

The family outing followed the conclusion of a legal battle that followed the death of Priscilla’s daughter Lisa Marie in January 2023. Presley and Keough reached a settlement over the late singer’s trust in May, which was officially approved by a judge in November.

After reaching the settlement, Priscilla shared a statement exclusively with PEOPLE, expressing that “the Presley family is stronger than ever.”

“As a family, we are glad to have resolved this together,” the statement said. “My family and I hope that everyone will allow us the privacy we need to properly grieve Lisa Marie and spend personal time together. We love and appreciate all of you and the Presley family is stronger than ever.”
