Rainn Wilson Shares Sweet Napkin Note About The Office Given to Him by Flight Attendant: ‘So Humbled’

Office it may have ended over a decade ago, but it’s still changing lives.

While traveling at Portland International Airport, Rainn Wilson, who plays fan favorite Dwight Schrute on the NBC sitcom, received a heartfelt letter from a fan.

A sweet note written by a flight attendant named Melanie read: “Office I went through some of the darkest days of my life. I can’t thank you enough for that.”

Wilson, 58, shared a photo of the note on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, along with the story behind it — and a sweet tribute to his Office family.

“I didn’t even see who dropped this on my lap at the PDX airport, but I really appreciate the sentiment, Alaska Airlines flight attendant Melanie,” he wrote. “I am so humbled to be a part of a show that moved, touched, comforted and inspired. And it continues to do so! That’s so freakin’ rare.”

“We constantly thank the entire Office family, actors, screenwriters, crew and especially the AUDIENCE!” he continued, adding that “this is not an open invitation to give me notes on napkins!”

The actor recently had another experience with a fan of the favorite mockumentary while traveling.

During the summer last April, Office star snapped a hilarious snap of his seatmate watching the hit series, completely unaware that Dwight himself was sitting in the seat next to him.

In the video, which he shared on his Instagram Story, the actor shook his head and switched to a person enjoying Office episode as they enjoyed an in-flight meal.

“When the person sitting next to you has no idea who you are…” he captioned the snap.

The actor previously admitted how much the acclaimed comedy series – which aired 201 episodes between 2005 and 2013 – meant to viewers in October 2020.

At the time, he and his on-screen boss Steve Carell discussed the show while appearing together on the Wilson finale Hey, man Live series on Instagram.

While discussing the show’s surprising resurgence in popularity during the pandemic, Wilson said: “One thing that makes me really happy is that in this really dark time, I’ve heard from so many people that they’ve really appreciated what they have Office there — that it has a warmth and a humanity to it, a kind of family feeling that makes it special and that’s helped them through this time and even helped their mental health.”
