Rameshwar began his political career in 1995 after the death of his father. He was elected as Pradhan from Nooka and served from 1995 to 1999. In the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, he contested from Bikaner constituency as the Congress candidate and won by a huge margin. From 1999 to 2000, he was a member of the Lok Sabha Committee on Food, Civil Supplies and Public Distribution.
From 2005 to 2010, he served as Bikaner District Collector. In 2013, he was elected to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from the Nokha constituency. Rameshwar defeated Kanhaiya Lal Jhanwar (Independence Party) in the 2013 assembly elections by a margin of 30,000 votes and became the leader of the opposition in the Vasundhara Raje government. In 2018, he lost the Nokhtar constituency to the BJP candidate Biharilal Bishnoi by a margin of 8,663 votes.
On January 18, 2022, the Rajasthan government established the Rajasthan Agricultural Industry Development Board with the aim of increasing farmers’ income. Rameshwar was appointed chairman of the board because of his reputation in the agricultural community.

Facts/Trivia
- His father Jethi Ram Dudi is considered the founder of Ulmul Dairy in Bikaner. He helped farmers in Bikaner by providing them an opportunity to sell their milk in the Delhi market.
- In 2019, he requested the Rajasthan government to increase his security after two gunmen were arrested in Haryana for plotting to assassinate him.
- On August 27, 2023, he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and was rushed to SMS (Sawai Man Singh) Hospital in Jaipur. A blood clot was surgically removed from his brain and he was admitted to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) for further treatment. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar visited him in the hospital, while other prominent figures from the BJP and Congress posted on various social media The platform wished him good health.
