The Real Housewives of Miami Cast Guerda Abrair has been inspiring other women to prioritize their health and share their stories since she publicly disclosed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
On Friday, the 46-year-old was a guest on the show Reality Life with Kate Casey podcast where she talked about the outpouring of support she received from women after being vulnerable with her health issues.
Abraira, who is now cancer-free, put the number at more than 300 people.
“I counted, I think I’m up to 305 people who told me ‘I didn’t want to do that,'” Casey said.

Her statement was in response to a podcaster who said her openness and awareness could “save many women’s lives” by helping others gain the courage to get tested routinely.

Abraira admitted she hasn’t gotten around to reading all the “thousands and thousands” of DMs she’s received yet, but she’s feeling the impact. She added that even people who have never watched RHOM Rather, they get involved now because their story has resonated with them.
“My sister had cancer and I was just diagnosed so we’re looking at it together. And at first we didn’t want to watch it, but then we watched it and you actually got us through it,” the Bravo star said and told what one viewer said to her.

With Abraira acting as a beacon of hope for new and existing fans, Casey added that her story is truly a “blessing.”

The Miami resident revealed that she found out about the diagnosis before filming, so she decided to share it on the television show.
“I had a blind spot, because I didn’t know that my cancer would be integrated into the issues in the story,” she said.
Aware that she has a platform to share her experiences, she looked back at those who don’t have one.

“A lot of people keep it inside and go through it alone or with their families. And it’s an unpleasant situation. And that’s not right. And we need that as a community,” Abraira said. “If anything, I hope people watch the show and say, I’ll never ask questions. When someone tells me I have cancer, I’ll hug that person and say, ‘What do you need me to do?’ I’ll drop everything. I will show up for them and support them in the right way.”
Abraira also recalled how she was “in St. Barts living my best life” when she got the life-changing news, and said that since she’s cancer-free, she’s learned to be “selfish” to herself.
“I put myself and my family first. And I just do whatever the hell I want,” she said.
The RHOM the star added: “Everything is destined in life. And this is where I need to be right now. So I’m very happy. I don’t have cancer… Six months, you know, is a big deal. So every time it’s like, oh, you know, but you know, I’m doing whatever I need to do to hopefully stay healthy. And I was in God’s hands.”
