Ritu Negi was born on Wednesday, December 30, 1992 (age 31 years; as of 2023) in Sharog village, Shillai area, Transgiri district, Sirmaur district, Himachal Pradesh. Her zodiac sign is Capricorn. While in school, Ritu watched a few senior girls in her school play kabaddi and was mesmerized by them, which attracted her interest in kabaddi. After completing her schooling at Sharog, she was selected for admission to State Hostel Bilaspur during her 10th grade studies.

Sports Authority of India

During her tenth standard, the school’s kabaddi coach took her to the Sports Authority of India in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, for a selection trial, where she was selected. There she trained for 9 years. During this time she competed for the youth and senior national teams. She won two gold medals at the Sports Authority of India Junior Nationals and five bronze medals at the Himachal Pradesh Senior Nationals. In 2011, she was selected as the captain of the Indian junior team and won a gold medal.

Central South Railway

Ritu Negi caught the attention of several senior coaches at an A-level tournament; they were so impressed with her skills and performance that they offered her a job with the Indian Railways directly. In 2014, Ritu Negi joined the South Central Division of Indian Railways (SCR). To become a member of the South Central Railway women’s kabaddi team, she passed the selection test. In her first SCR competition, SCR won the competition; due to which, she was selected for SCR training camp and in her second SCR competition, she was selected for the senior national team of Indian Railways Women’s Kabaddi Team.

Indian National Senior Women’s Kabaddi Team

In 2017, Ritu Negi was selected for the Indian team training camp for the Asian Championships, but failed to enter the top 12. In 2018, she was selected for the Asian Games training camp again, and this time she entered the top 12 for the Indian team. In 2022, she became the captain of the women’s kabaddi team that won the gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
