In a heartbreaking case that has shocked the community, Roger Aaron Denig, a 21-year-old father, is facing first-degree murder charges in connection with the tragic death of his two-month-old daughter, Ammarie. What initially appeared to be a case of a medical condition took a dark turn when medical professionals discovered alarming evidence of abuse. We have shared all the information about this incident below.
Roger Aaron Denig
On June 21, at 9:40 am, Ammarie’s mother made a distressing 911 call to the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office and reported that her daughter was unable to breathe. Paramedics took Amarie and the entire Denig family to a local hospital in eastern Lemhi County. Denig informed the medical team that her daughter suffered from laryngomalacia, a congenital condition that softens the tissues above the larynx. Denig claimed that her daughter suffocated due to the condition.
Medical professionals worked diligently to revive Amarie at Steele Memorial Medical Center before transferring her to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. However, a subsequent CT scan revealed shocking news. Amarie sustained multiple brain injuries, indicating a serious external physical assault. Subsequent examinations revealed additional troubling details, including retinal bleeding, broken ribs in various stages of healing, and old bruises on the boy’s chest. The evidence supported the conclusion that Ammarie suffered from shaken baby syndrome, a severe form of child abuse.
Despite the best efforts of the medical teams, Ammarie’s brain stopped working, leaving the doctors with a bleak outlook. She remained on life support at the Primary Children’s Hospital before finally succumbing to her injuries on the fateful night of June 23. An autopsy confirmed the presence of more broken ribs in various stages of healing, strengthening the case against Denig. A pathologist concluded Ammarie’s cause of death was a traumatic head injury, a heartbreaking end to her innocent life.
The loss of Ammarie has left our community devastated and desperate for justice. The evidence strongly suggests that she was a victim of child abuse, subjected to unimaginable physical injuries that ultimately claimed her life. It is critical that this case be expeditiously prosecuted and that Roger Aaron Denig be held accountable if he is found guilty. The justice system must ensure that such acts of violence against children have serious consequences. As we remember Ammarie, we must fight for justice and work to create a society where every child is valued, protected and safe. Stay connected with us for further updates.
