Ross Lynch is heating up the music scene, one video at a time.
The 27-year-old actor and singer — who is best known for his role on the Disney Channel show Austin and Ally — has grown up, making headlines as the “Internet’s Boyfriend” after starring in Troye Sivan’s “One of Your Girls” music video in October.
The “Scorched” music video features Lynch shirtless, posing for the camera and then sitting while Sivan, 28, dances around him as his love interest. And while Lynch made the internet crazy with his role in the video, the decision to participate was at the last minute.
“My little brother Ryland got a call that was a random random moment like, ‘Hey, Troye really wants Ross to be in his music video, but you have to get red-eye New York tonight,'” the singer tells PEOPLE. “My feeling was like, ‘You have to do it’ — so we flew to New York and made it.”

Shooting the music video, Lynch says, was worth the last-minute trip. “It was a really, really fun experience. To be honest with you, Ryland and I didn’t recognize Troye in his drag at first. He looked fantastic – says the Driver Era singer. “But honestly, the experience was wonderful. I think Troye is a wonderful person. I’m really, really, really happy to be a part of it.”
While Lynch says he “expected the reaction” to the music video, he didn’t realize how big it would be. “I didn’t expect it to be that big,” he tells PEOPLE. “I honestly underestimate the popularity I have gained over the past 15 years. I just don’t think about it, it’s not at the forefront of my mind… You come home and hang out with your mom at your mom’s house. She cooks the meals, you wash the dishes, you just go back to normal life… it’s just a juxtaposition.”
Lynch admits that Sivan himself asked about his rising status. “Troye even asked me, ‘How does it feel to be an internet boyfriend?'” says the actor. “I said, ‘Honestly, I’m not thinking about it.’ I don’t really read a lot of comments or anything on Instagram or Twitter… I just go about my life every day trying to do good things, trying to make art, trying to have fun.”

The My friend Dahmer star is focused on creating “good things” with his brother Rocky, who is his other half in their music group The Driver Era. The duo released their latest single, “Rumors,” in October, and the accompanying music video debuted Wednesday. Comparing it to the “One of Your Girls” music video, Lynch tells PEOPLE that for the “Rumors” video, we went a little more artistic, more conceptual, more abstract, so it’s not nearly as hot, but there are some spicy bits.”
The “spicy bits” of the music video may or may not include a bit of dancing, a close kiss and, of course, a glimpse of the star’s six-pack.
When asked if there will be a music video to accompany their latest single, Lynch says “Probably at some point.” “We feel like right now we’re making the best music we’ve ever made… Usually that means we’ll probably put them together and there’ll be an album at some point. We’re not sure what that’s going to look like yet, but we’re really excited about some of the new songs we’re working on.”
