Ryan Gosling Reveals Whether He’ll Continue Musical Streak with ‘The Unknown Stuntman’ in The Fall Guy (Exclusive)

Ryan Gosling is resting his vocal cords The Fall Guy.

The actor, 43, may step into the iconic shoes of Colt Seavers in the upcoming film (an adaptation of the 1980s series of the same name hosted by Lee Majors), but he won’t be channeling his vocals.

While speaking with PEOPLE at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Saturday — where he received the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Motion Picture — Gosling revealed that he won’t be singing The Fall Guy theme song, “The Unknown Stuntman”, originally performed by the Majors, 84.

“I’m not, but it’s in the movie and it’s sung by a pretty big artist,” the actor tells PEOPLE, apparently referring to Blake Shelton, who will offer a contemporary rendition of the song for the film.

“I’m excited for people to hear it,” Gosling adds of the cover.

The revelation comes after a very musical year for Gosling, who has already proven his vocal abilities to his acclaimed La la country role and the spooky rock duo Dead Man’s Bones — not to mention the viral dance recital he performed at age 12.

And while Gosling won’t be musically directing Majors in his upcoming action film, which also stars Emily Blunt, he says he’s maintained a friendship with the veteran since meeting him on set.

“[Majors] came to Australia and I had the opportunity to talk to him and spend the day with him,” Gosling tells PEOPLE, adding that the experience “was pretty awesome.”

The Barbie star also says he and Majors, who played Seavers for five years on the original series, are “text buddies” and still keep in touch – which he thinks is “pretty cool.”

“He’s so funny and he’s very sweet and kind,” adds Gosling.
