Ryan Reynolds Meets an Imaginary Friend Voiced by Steve Carell in IF Trailer Directed by John Krasinski

Ryan Reynolds, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Louis Gossett Jr. also star in ‘IF’, in theaters May 17

Ryan Reynolds enters the magical world of imaginary friends.

In the first trailer for IFwritten and directed by John Krasinski, Reynolds and actress Cailey Fleming embark on an adventure as they discover various imaginary friends in the real world and share a dance number or two.

The trailer opens with Reynolds tiptoeing across a child’s bedroom toward a closet door as the words go, “What if everything you believed in as a child was real?” flash across the screen.

The closet opens to reveal a large, furry, purple imaginary friend, voiced by Steve Carell, who comes out and greets him before giving him a big sneeze.

The trailer shows the film’s female protagonist, played by Fleming, catching her own glimpse of an imaginary friend with a bob haircut and big eyes, voiced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, before passing out.

The show goes on to ask, “What’s going on?”, prompting Carell’s character to explain, “I’m IF, you know? An imaginary friend.”

The scenes show imaginary friends trying to communicate with people in the real world, including a character played by Bobby Moynihan. “Our children have grown up, so we need new ones. He could save us all,” say the imaginary friends in the trailer.

“We have to help them,” Fleming’s character replies. “Yes, we do,” adds Reynolds.

Actress Fiona Shaw also makes a brief appearance dancing alone around the apartment with the backdrop of New York behind her. But she’s not the only one with a dance floor as Fleming could also be seen dancing alongside dozens of various imaginary friends in a black suit and top hat.
