Sandhya Devanathan, an Indian banker-turned-technologist and business executive, was appointed vice president of Facebook parent company Meta India on November 17, 2022. She will assume this position effective January 1, 2023.

Sandhya Devanathan was born in 1976 in Andhra Pradesh (age 46 in 2022). After completing her studies, Sandhya went to Andhra University, Visakhapatnam to pursue her Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (1994-1998). While studying at Andhra University, she actively participated in technology festivals, speech and debate competitions.
She then pursued an MBA degree from the School of Management, Delhi University (1998-2000). She then studied a one-year leadership course at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford (2014).

Profession
Sandhya Devanathan started her career in 2000 with Citibank, an American multinational investment banking and financial services company, as a webmaster and product manager for Citibank’s online and e-commerce team. She remained in this position for approximately three years and was promoted to head of personal loan products in 2003. In August 2005, she was deployed to the Philippines as part of the company’s leadership excellence program, where she began serving as Assistant Vice President of Credit Card Portfolio Management and Customer Retention. A year later, she was promoted to Vice President of Client Franchise Management Offshore and moved to the United States. In 2007, Sandia was appointed Group Director of International Consumer Lending at Citibank. Devanathan served as director of sales performance management for International Retail Banking from July 2008 to December 2009, when he later resigned from the company.
In 2009, she moved to Singapore and joined Standard Chartered Bank as global head of cross-selling and pricing. In July 2012, she became Managing Director and Head of Credit Cards and Unsecured Loans. In December 2014, she became managing director of retail banking and payments products. Sandhya resigned from the company in 2015.
In 2016, Devanathan joined Facebook Inc. (now known as Meta) and has served the company in various capacities. She joined the company as a group director and six months later was promoted to country managing director in Singapore and head of operations in Vietnam. In 2020, Sandhya was appointed Vice President of Games for Meta Asia Pacific. On November 17, 2022, Meta appointed her as Vice President and Head of India Operations. She succeeds Ajit Mohan, Meta’s former head of India operations, who resigned from the company in November 2022. Sandhya will take over as Vice President of Meta India on January 1, 2022.
Meta chief commercial officer Marne Levine released a statement when announcing her new role at the company, writing:
I am delighted to welcome Sandya as our new leader in India. Sandhya has a proven track record of scaling businesses, building exceptional and inclusive teams, driving product innovation and building strong partnerships. We are excited to have her lead Meta’s continued growth in India. “
Devanathan also serves on the boards of several organizations, including Pepper Financial Services Group, National Library Board (Singapore), Singapore Management University, Ministry of Information and Communications (Singapore), and Women’s Economic and Social Forum.
