Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves Reunite 30 Years After Speed for Anniversary Screening in Los Angeles

Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are ready for the rush hour.

Speedthe iconic superstar-led thriller back in 1994, celebrated its 30th anniversary by reuniting Reeves, 60, and Bullock, 60, on Tuesday, October 8. A special screening in Los Angeles was part of Beyond Fest at the American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theater.

He joined Speed director Jan de Bont, 80, chatted on stage, Reeves and Bullock were all smiles as they recalled making the Oscar-winning action hit.

“We knew we were doing something wacky,” said Reeves playing SWAT officer Jack Traven, who boards a bus rigged to detonate a bomb if the speed drops below 50 mph.

“I was behind the wheel of the missile, so I was happy to be alive at the end of the day,” joked Bullock, who played Annie Porter, a passenger on the bus who helps prevent it from exploding.

“I mean, I was new to the whole game so I wasn’t aware of what was going on or what was good or what wasn’t supposed to feel a certain way, but I was just, you’re just into it,” Bullock continued.

Talking about how the actors were really “breaking things” during filming, Bullock added: “I think as an actor and, being a rookie, I was behind the wheel wanting everyone to be safe. It was special.”

For de Bont, Speedits stars were integral to its critical and commercial success. I have never been so proud of those two actors, what they did for me and often unnatural for them, said the director.

“What they had to do is just incredible. But the relationship the two of them created together is absolutely incredible,” he continued. “And when I saw it again on the screen tonight, it was so real. They were absolutely perfect.”

“All the emotions were real, all the laughter was real, all the smiles, some cuddling,” added the director.

“It was really, really cool. And I got to tell them how great they both are,” he continued. “I mean, now I realize more how great you were back then. I have to say you were busy, but now I’m really like, ‘Oh s—,’ and that’s so good.”
