Sara Pilot was born in Kashmir, India, to Farooq Abdullah and Mollie Abdullah. Although she comes from a political family, Sarah is not interested in political affairs and does not get involved in politics. Sara graduated with a bachelor’s degree in hotel management and a master’s degree in international affairs. She has worked with UNIFEM (United Nations Development Fund for Women, part of UNICEF). Later, in 2009, she launched her own NGO (Center for Equity and Inclusion, CEQUIN) together with Lora Prabhu.

Sarah was born into a Sunni Islamic family, her parents are Farooq Abdullah and Mollie Abdullah. Her father, Farooq Abdullah, is the president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. She has two sisters, Safia Abdullah and Hina Abdullah, and a brother, Omar Abdullah. Her brother Omar Abdullah is also a former chief minister and the youngest person ever to hold the position.

Sara met Sachin Pilot, son of late Congress leader Rajesh Pilot, in London. Since Sara and Sachin came from different religious backgrounds, Sara’s parents raised a lot of objections to their marriage. However, the two did not let their ideological and religious differences stand in their way, and they got married on January 15, 2004. Later, as time passed, Sara’s parents accepted Sachin as their son-in-law. The couple has two sons, Aaran and Vehaan.

Sara and Sachin later divorced. The divorce was officially confirmed in an affidavit filed by Sachin during the 2023 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly elections, in which he mentioned his marital status as “divorced”.
Profession
After interning at UNIFEM, Sara became gravitating towards humanitarian services. She was least interested in politics, although she sometimes accompanied Sachin Pilot on election campaigns. In addition to social work, Sara is a qualified yoga instructor and has been teaching Vinyasa and Hath Yoga classes since 2014.
