Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. still slaying after more than two decades of marriage!

On Sunday, September 1, the ’90s and ’00s pop culture icons — who met thanks to I know what you did last summer and married in 2002 — celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary with a low-key Instagram post.

Along with a smiling and cuddly photo of the couple — in which Prinze, 48, hugs Gellar’s waist — Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum, 47, wrote the simple caption.

“22 @realfreddieprinze,” Gellar wrote, adding a few wedding-themed emojis: “🥂💍👰🏼.”

Gellar and Prinze first met on the set of their 1997 slasher filmbut it wasn’t love at first sight. While talking to PEOPLE in 2001, She is all that the actor admitted that he and Gellar “really didn’t like each other” at first.

And their first date together was actually an accident, Gellar revealed to PEOPLE Now in 2020. “We’ve been friends for a really long time. We had a lot of dinners before. And we were supposed to go with someone else, and the third person we didn’t get away with and we decided to go anyway “, the star recalled.

“We were just two people at dinner and made up for what we had missed,” she added. “We had a long car ride and a long dinner and things just happened.”

And after their first date, Prinze said he knew Gellar was the one. “I didn’t go on dates with other girls,” he explained, “nor did I want to date other girls at all.”

The couple, who have two children, daughter Charlotte, 14, and son Rocky, 11, have appeared together on screen numerous times since I know what you did last summer.

Before the couple tied the knot in 2002, Stern, 70, asked Prinze, “So you’re going to marry Sarah Michelle Gellar, even though you know it won’t last?” to which the actor said, “Oh, it’s absolutely going to take a while.”

While celebrating 20 years, Gellar reposted a screenshot of the moment, tagged Stern and joked, “I think you owe us.”
