The ravishing 51-year-old woman Miss. Sarma was born in Riga, Latvia, in Northeastern Europe. She first attended Newton North High School while living in Newton. Her family later moved to Newton, Massachusetts, where she was raised and educated.

Sarma Melngailis became interested in food after her parents encouraged her to attend the University of Pennsylvania in 1994. She holds a BA in Economics from the Wharton School. She also earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The lady obtained two bachelor’s degrees.

Sarma then moved on to work in investment banking at Bear Stearns and private equity at Bain Capital. She later realized that she was not cut out for the world of finance and quit all her jobs in the industry. Furthermore, she decided to major in food and entered the French Culinary Institute in 1999, where she began her career in the wonderful world of food and drink.

She later decided to get into the vegan food business and started her own.

From the new Netflix documentary series Bad Vegan: Fame, Fraud, and Fugitives. According to the story, Sarma was born to Susan and John. After settling down with Bob Jasse, Sarma’s mother Susan started Alyson’s Orchard, an apple orchard of 450 hectares. Susan co-founded the company with Bob and took over when Bob Jasse died in 2002. Sarma’s mother’s company is still in business and is considered one of the most prestigious in New England. Ilze Melngailis, Sarma’s sister, currently resides in New York. Ilze graduated in psychology.

Career

Sarma first opened Commissary with Mr. Matthew Kenney in 2001 after receiving her food certification from the French Culinary Institute. Matthew is a chef as well as a writer. Her store didn’t last long and closed in 2003. Sarma Melngailis sought advice from Jeffrey Chodorow’s China Grill Management. Miss Sarma, along with him and Matthew Kenney, opened the Pure Food and Wine restaurant in New York in June 2004. It was the first raw food restaurant in all of New York.

Her restaurant has previously been recognized twice by New York Magazine. It has been on the Forbes list of “All-Star New York Eateries” for almost five years. It was also named one of Forbes’ 100 best restaurants.

Pure Food and Wine delivered packaged snacks to her store. In 2005, she and Matthew Kenney opened One Luck Duck Juice, a retail takeout store. It also sells skin care products, books, nutritional supplements and various other items.

Even in January 2015, Sarma could not pay the salaries of the employees, although she opened her restaurant and store for several years. Her entire staff fled.

In February 2015, she announced the closure of her restaurant and takeout shop, apologizing for the situation. She said she was unable to pay wages due to low margins and high ingredient costs.

Later in April 2015, she reopened her restaurant and shop, but most of her staff did not join the event after numerous requests from Sarma. But again, in July 2015, Sarma Melngailis’ remaining staff left Sarma because she was still unable to pay their salaries. Because of this, she closed all her companies forever.

When Sarma started working with Matthey Kenney, she had an affair with him. But in the year, even after working with him, she married Anthony Strangis.

In the documentary series, it was shown that Sarma Melngailis introduced Anthony to her mother Susan. It was also proven that Susan and Anthony kept in touch via email and he kept asking Susan for money. Anthony told Susan that he needed funds to help Susan. But when Susan was sent to prison, she signed a divorce from Anthony and now lives alone.

In November 2023, in her recent media statement, Sarma shared that she was still in debt after making money from Netflix and paying off employee salary debt.
