Saturday Night Live Pays Tribute to Matthew Perry After Former Host’s Death at 54

The entertainment industry continues to mourn Matthew Perry hours after news broke of his death at the age of 54.

According to multiple media outlets, Perry died of an apparent drowning at his home on Saturday. Later that evening, Saturday night live – which is Friends star guested on October 4, 1997 (with musical guest Oasis) at the height of her fame on the television sitcom Must See and after starring opposite Salma Hayek in Fools Rush In — they paid tribute to the actor with his name along with his black and white portrait.

Nate Bargatze hosted this weekend SNL with musical guests Foo Fighters.

Perry’s episode SNL included a Friends a parody in which Perry played Joey (played by Matt LeBlanc) and cast member Colin Quinn played Chandler. Perry’s Joey didn’t care too much for Quinn’s portrayal.

Perry was found dead at a home in Los Angeles on Saturday, TMZ reported, citing law enforcement sources. Law enforcement sources also confirmed Perry’s death Los Angeles Times.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told PEOPLE that officers responded to a call at Perry’s address regarding the death of a man in his 50s, but would not confirm the identity of the deceased.

TMZ was also told it was not foul play, and their sources said emergency responders were called to the residence for cardiac arrest.

Representatives for Perry did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Perry was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and grew up in Ottawa, Canada. He moved to Los Angeles as a teenager and eventually landed roles in TV shows including boys will be boys, Growing pains and Sydney before booking his breakthrough role as Chandler Bing when he Friends debuted in 1994. He played Chandler — a key member of the troupe played by his future real-life friends LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer — for 10 seasons, earning an Emmy nomination in 2002.
