Savannah Chrisley Says She's Struggling to 'Not Feel Guilty' About Only Visiting Her Parents in Prison Twice a Month

Savannah Chrisley learns more about her inner strength as her parents serve a combined 19 years in prison for tax fraud.

Although it’s been more than a year since her parents, Todd and Julie Chrisley, reported to prison for their part in a multimillion-dollar bank fraud and tax evasion scheme, Chrisley knows best star, 26, opens up about why she still struggles with managing her life on the May 28 episode of her podcast Unlocked.

“It’s so hard because I’ve said it before. Mom and Dad aren’t here,” she said while discussing her parents’ absence on Mother’s Day. “It’s like learning to mourn the loss of people who are still alive, and grief is real. It is. Sometimes I like to close my eyes to it. I like not to feel it.”

Noting that she likes to “just pack everything in,” she added that she’s trying to figure out the best way to manage her emotions and “also not feel guilty about moving on with her life.”

“It’s so hard because, like, the first year when mom and dad weren’t there, literally every weekend I wasn’t there. Every weekend I went and visited one of them,” she explained. “And now, I mean, I say we go twice a month now, and there’s definitely some guilt associated with that because you’re like, ‘No, I shouldn’t be moving on with my life. I have to be there.’ I have to see them.'”

Savannah said she also faces “guilt” over her longing to get married and have children.

“I’m trying to figure out, like, okay, how do I move on without my parents feeling like I’m moving on without them? How do I, you know, please everybody, which I think is kind of hard to do,” Savannah continued. “It’s probably impossible. I don’t know. It’s really hard.”

Savannah Chrisley says brother Grayson ‘really struggled’ after attending parents’ appeal hearing

The podcast host continued by sharing a quote that really resonated with her when she was overwhelmed by her emotions.

“Be proud of how you’ve handled these past few months, the quiet battles you’ve fought, the moments you’ve had to humble yourself, the times you’ve wiped away your own tears, celebrate your strength,” the quote read.

Earlier in the episode, Savannah, who is now the primary caregiver for her niece Chloe and her brother Grayson, mentioned how she “broke down in tears” after receiving a Mother’s Day card for Chloe that made her realize she was doing a “good job” as a caregiver .

“Chloe wrote me a letter for Mother’s Day, and the letter says, ‘Happy Mother’s Day Savannah. I know you didn’t expect me and Grayson to get your hands on it, but you’re doing a great job with me and Grayson, keep up the good work Chloe,'” she said.
