Sebastian Bach Thinks The Masked Singer ‘Referenced My Face’ When Designing His Tiki Costume (Exclusive)

Elimination on Masked singer‘S Rock Night certainly didn’t hit Sebastian Bach.

“I was disappointed,” the 55-year-old rocker, who competed as Tiki, tells PEOPLE. “I get attached to people and projects, and even that stupid costume, I thought, became a kind of alter ego. So I get annoyed when I don’t win everything.”

The Skid Row frontman walked out on Wednesday’s episode after singing KISS’s “I Was Made for Lovin’ You,” but he hasn’t lost his love for the band. “I just went to the last KISS show at Madison Square Garden,” says Bach. “I was there in the sixth row!”

PEOPLE: What attracted you Masked singer?

SEBASTIAN BACH: I’ve always been a sucker for big productions. I have always loved big plays since childhood, and Masked singer it’s definitely a big show. All the costumes are big, all the lighting is big, the effects are big, the songs are big. And when I got there, I realized that it’s actually about singing, which is something that I just love to do, although it’s quite different to carry that huge tube, actually.

Why did you choose the Tiki costume?

If you look at the face, I really think whoever designed it was referring to my face, because to me it has that smirk, like, “Let the haters hate, I’m gonna kick ass forever.” It’s that vibe.

Did you find singing as Tiki more challenging than what you’re used to?

To all future contestants, my advice would be: Let them offer you the option to wear the costume to the rehearsal or not, and I would say wear the costume because it’s different than not wearing it. Take it from me, it’s different. I’m about 6’4″ and that [costume] was at least two feet taller than me, so we’re talking about a nine-foot costume. And then they put a tiki straw that comes off of that, so it was about 10 feet. I had to bend over the whole set, walking around. And that was my suggestion, after they put me in the costume, I said, “OK, now put me in the platforms.” And they’re like, “What?”

You had to make it even bigger!

That’s right. I like the size of it. I also like the fact that as a singer they let me choose — as much as I can — the songs I will sing. I got to play Lady Gaga, the “Monster” on Smackdown with some poor, unfortunate soul. Because if you’re going to have a vocal smackdown with Sebastian Bach, get ready for a smack because I’ve done this once or twice.

Who knew you were doing a show?

The only challenge is that you can’t talk to anyone on set. They put you in a black hoodie that says “Don’t talk to me” and gloves, tie up your hair and put on glasses. And you have to go straight from the rehearsal room to the trailer and not talk to the crew or anybody. So you’re very, very, very isolated on shoot days and it can freak you out. You can recover. And then you put on a costume and then you’re even more isolated. I was going to say to my mom and stuff like, “Hey, I’m on…” but I had to say, “Hey, I think my friend might be on this show, and he told me it’s really cool.”

You even had to lie to your mom?

That! And then there’s a bunch of internet chatter that I just had to ignore. But now I can say, “Yeah, that’s me. And all the episodes are on demand, so fire up and enjoy.” Well that’s fun.

20 craziest rules you didn’t know contestants on ‘Masked Singer’ had to follow

Any thoughts on who might be underneath any of the remaining costumes?

I don’t want to give away any of the surprises. Who wants to know that Superman is Clark Kent?

At this point in your career, is there a song or project that fans recognize you the most?

This happens in different ways depending on which part of town I’m in. If I’m in a rock club, it’s Skid Row. If I’m at the mall, it is Gilmore Girls. And if I’m in Canada, it is Trailer Park Boys. It’s crazy up there. When I’m walking in public and someone hears me talking or walking, it’s like god status up there Trailer Park Boys. And in New York, it’s Broadway. When I’m in Manhattan, so many people come up and say, “Oh, Jekyll and Hyde and Rocky Horror.”
