Selena Gomez Reveals She Broke Her Hand by Tripping Over a Long Dress: ‘This Is Not Fun’

Selena Gomez has a new single and a new accessory: an arm cast.

After recently revealing that she broke her arm and underwent surgery, the “Single Soon” singer opened up about what happened in a new interview with the Ellen K Morning Show — and it was a pretty simple accident.

“I wish I had a really cool story that I saved someone’s life or something,” Gomez, 31, joked on the radio show. “I was wearing a long dress – it was a summer dress – and I was walking from the car to the house and I tripped.”

Host Ellen K then remarked that Just the murders in the building star was lucky she didn’t break her teeth, and Gomez agreed, “Yeah, that’s what the doctors said.”

“I guess there’s a bright side, but this is not fun,” added the Grammy-nominated singer, lifting a cast on her arm.

A day after dropping her new song “Single Soon” on Friday, Gomez revealed in an Instagram comment that she’s been battling an injury. “I broke my arm and had surgery,” she wrote.

“I don’t care about selling anything,” her comment continued under a fan post about helping “Single Soon” reach the top 20 on Board Top 100 rankings. “I’m just happy making music with my friends.”

The new single marks Gomez’s first new music in 2023, and it’s a dance beat about anticipating the end of a relationship. “I’m picking out this dress/ I’m trying on these shoes/ ‘Cause soon I’ll be free/ Soon I’ll be free,” she sings on the anthemic pop song (produced by Benny Blanco and Cashmere Cat).

“I think everybody goes through a phase of, ‘Oh, it would be nice to love having someone,’ and I get that,” she said. “But you know, I’m just enjoying where I’m at, and I just want to be happy with who I am, so whenever this person comes into my life, I can just have added value instead of them being this insecure, you know, person that I used to be .”

She explained of the song, “It’s basically my way of saying, ‘It’s totally okay to be alone and it’s fun.’

Selena Gomez Says She ‘Enjoys’ Being Single: ‘I Just Want To Be Happy With Who I Am’

“Single Soon” marks the first single ahead of Gomez’s upcoming fourth solo studio album, though the rousing dance hit may not be far from what fans can expect to hear on the album. Elsewhere in the interview, she revealed that her next album will be completely positive.

“There’s not a single sad song on my album – and I don’t think that in a way, it’s like it’s all meaningless because I think even the most pop songs can have heart,” she said. “I want him to experience it, but I really don’t feel like I have it in me to write something negative. It just doesn’t match where I’m at anymore.”

Gomez added, “I live in the world of Sad Girl music. I love it and I’ll keep writing that music, but I just felt like this album shouldn’t be like that.”
