Selena Gomez Shares Emotional Moment She Found Out She Landed Emilia Pérez Movie Role: ‘I’m So Gonna Cry’

Selena Gomez’s new movie Emilia Perez it obviously means a lot to her.

On Monday, August 19, the singer and actress, 32, shared a clip on Instagram showing the emotional moment she found out she had been cast as Jessi Del Monte in the upcoming film.

In the video, Gomez, who was wearing a white cropped shirt and bare pants, is seen saying, “I can’t believe I got the movie! Now I’m going to cry, I don’t want to cry,” holding a hand to her face in shock while sitting on a sofa.

– I don’t want to cry! she insisted, prompted by her friend Gabby, who was filming.

“This is going to be so cool, Gabby!” Gomez added.

The Just the murders in the building star shared the video as part of a series of photos. “When I found out I got the part for @emiliaperezfilm and sessions in between lol,” she captioned the post.

Another photo shows Gomez hugging her co-star Karla Sofía Gascón, who plays the lead in the film, as well as posing between clothes rails and tagging Saint Laurent.

The next snap shows a blonde and bloody Gomez posing for a mirror selfie, while another image shows the musician pouting for another mirror photo, this time with her brunette self, while wearing a fur jacket.

Gomez’s post comes after she burst into tears when she Emilia Perez received a standing ovation of several minutes at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18, per Diversity and Deadline.

In the film, Gomez plays the wife of feared drug cartel leader Manitas (Gascón) who enlists lawyer Rita (Zoe Saldaña) to help him secretly complete gender reassignment surgery to become a woman as he nears retirement from the job.

The film is divided into four acts and also features original songs performed by the cast, per Diversity.

While talking about Brainless podcast in January, Gomez said of the role, which she described as “one of the most challenging things” she’s done, “There’s one scene where I’m left — I’m not giving anything away — and I remember channeling the moment when I first had to go to rehab and leaving… I just felt like I just pulled it off when I remembered that first moment and was terrified, so it was really cathartic.”

“I feel like I have these moments in my life that have happened and I can use it and it’s actually a great feeling, like it’s a good feeling after I’ve had a good cry or something,” she continued.

Emilia Perez will be available to stream on Netflix on November 13.
