Selena Quintanilla's Killer Files for Parole 30 Years After Murder, Claiming She Has Bounty on Her Head

The woman convicted of killing Grammy Award winner Selena Quintanilla has applied for parole nearly three decades after the murder.

Yolanda Saldívar, who was the 23-year-old’s business associate and president of her fan club, killed Quintanilla on March 31, 1995, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

In October of that year, Saldívar was sentenced to life imprisonment, with the possibility of parole in 30 years.

According to Texas Department of Criminal Justice online records, Saldívar has applied for parole, which she will be eligible for on March 30.

The parole review process in Texas starts six months before the parole eligibility date. Saldívar’s next parole review date is March 30, one day before the 30th anniversary of Selena’s murder.

Saldívar reportedly claimed there was a bounty on her head in prison, according to ABC 13.

During Saldivar’s 1995 trial, Quintanilla’s widower Chris Pérez said the pop star had fired Saldivar earlier that year after learning the woman had allegedly embezzled money from her.

After the confrontation, Saldívar applied for a permit to purchase a revolver in San Antonio. Then, on March 31, when Quintanilla met Saldívar in a hotel room and took some documents from her, Saldívar shot Quintanilla in the back.

During the trial, Saldívar pleaded not guilty to murder, and her lawyer argued that the shooting was not intentional and that Saldívar was actually trying to shoot herself.
