Shake Shack is offering free burgers all week — and you can thank the 2024 Oscars for that!
The fast food chain first made its tantalizing announcement at the beginning of the month. On March 4, the company revealed its “Hollywood’s Biggest Night of Promotion,” which runs through March 18.
“Lights, camera, action! Join us for a prize-winning guessing game on Hollywood’s biggest night!” their press release began. Shake Shake then explained that the free food will depend on how long the annual Oscars run.

“Will it be an epic marathon or a fast sprint? We ran the numbers and predicted a duration of 3 hours and 31 minutes!” they said about Hollywood’s biggest night that took place last Sunday.
Shake Shack credits the marketing agency Known for calculating the duration of the awards.
According to the fast food restaurant, the agency used a custom formula to determine the hours with factors such as how long the host will talk, presentations, performances, ads, and maybe even a little Ken-ergy!

Per Food and wineeither way, viewers would get something!
The label added that if Shake Shake was correct about the estimated 3 hours and 31 minutes, patrons would have purchased a free Chicken Shack — one of the chain’s bestsellers, which features “crispy white-meat chicken breast over lettuce, pickles , and buttermilk mayonnaise on a toasted potato bun.”

And if the Oscars were to run below the projected 211 minutes, Shake Shack would offer SmokeShack — another fan favorite — instead. The burger is officially described as a “cheeseburger made with all-natural Angus beef topped with applewood smoked bacon, chopped cherry peppers and ShackSauce.”
“Fingers crossed, the host feels a little long-winded and sends us home with the best prize of the night—Chicken Shacks. Or maybe those commercial breaks will just pass, and we’ll be rewarded with delicious SmokeShacks,” the restaurant joked in its first post.

In the end, SmokeShacks prevailed, and burger lovers are the big winners. However, there are a few conditions.
Their website says that SmokeShack must be affiliated with a minimum purchase of $10.
Other terms and conditions that apply include “using the code ‘BIGWINS’ through a Shake Shack kiosk — or via the chain’s mobile app or website. It is important to note that you cannot claim a free SmokeShack by ordering at the restaurant counter or via delivery platforms,” Food and wine explains.
