Shreya Ghoshal was born on 12 March 1984 (37 years old; as of 2021) in Berhampore city, Murshidabad district, West Bengal.
She grew up in Rawatpatta, Rajasthan, India.
Her zodiac sign is Pisces. Shreya studied at Atomic Energy Central School in Rawat Patta till eighth grade and when her family moved to Mumbai, she moved to Atomic Energy Central School in Anushakti Nagar. She then enrolled in Atomic Energy Junior College to study science but later dropped out to join SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce in Mumbai, where she studied arts and majored in English. Shreya Ghoshal has been studying music since the age of four.
Her mother accompanied her in Tempura and they rehearsed Bengali songs.
At the age of six, she began formal classical music training with the late Kalyanji Bhai for 18 months, and continued her studies with the late Mukta Bhide in Mumbai.

The first song she recorded was “Ganraj Rangi Nachato”, a cover version of a Marathi song originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Her first studio album was “Bendhechhi Beena”, released in 1998. She made her Bollywood debut as a singer in 2002 with the film “Devdas”. She has sung 5 songs in the movies Silsila Ye Chaahat Ka and Bairi. Piya”, “Chalak Chalak”, “Morey Piya” and “Dola Re Dola” went on to become hits.

I remember I was asked to rehearse once before I finally recorded the song. I simply closed my eyes and sang without stopping. When I opened my eyes, I saw excitement and chaos outside the studio. Then Sanjayji told me that I sang the song very well, so they recorded it in one go. “

- In 2011, she shot a commercial for jewelry company Joyalukkas. The ad was aired in five different languages namely Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
