- His film “Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!” (1994) was released at a time when video piracy was at an all-time high and theaters were losing audiences due to poor ambience. To address this issue, the film is only playing in select theaters, with prints being made available to theaters ready to upgrade. Since the film was released, the audience has responded enthusiastically, and theaters have upgraded themselves. This increased ticket sales, brought audiences back into theaters, and made history, making the film one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
- “Hum Aapke Hain Koun…!” brings the “big wedding” culture into movies and real life. Weddings often feature songs and games inspired by the movie. It also went on to inspire many directors including Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra.
- In an interview, he stated that he was deeply influenced by Raj Kapoor’s films and the camera angles used in them.

Then you lost your mother and you made “Hum Saath Saath Hain” and when you realized the value of marriage you made “Vivah” and then with “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” you realized that every family has Problem, you can’t deny (it)”.
- Sooraj Barjatya made Maine Pyaar Kiya (1989) when his family was losing money as the films kept failing and was on the verge of bankruptcy. Another problem they face is video piracy. In an interview, Suraj spoke about how the film attracted a huge audience and prevented the demise of Rajshri Productions, saying:
When I made Maine Pyaar Kiya, video piracy was at its peak. Deep down in my mind was that the film had to be presented in such a grand way that the audience would be compelled to go to the theater to see it. For Rajshree, it was a make-or-break film. But I believe my efforts will pay off. The success of Maine Pyaar Kiya has done wonders for our business growth. “
