Suneeta Rao aka Sunita Rao was born in Germany on Wednesday, April 5, 1967 (age 56 years; as of 2023). Her zodiac sign is Aries. As a child, she began receiving Carnatic vocal training from Indian singer PV Shankar. She has also been trained in several dance forms including Bharatanatyam and Jazz Ballet.
In 1983, she studied at Bombay International School in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. While studying in college, Sunita started acting in stage plays.

Her brother Narasimha Rao is a guitarist and former visiting professor at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.

- While in school, she participated in singing competitions. From an early age, she wanted to be a singer and performer.
- When she was 16 years old, she was spotted by Indian actor Sanjeev Kohli while performing a musical on stage. Speaking about the incident in an interview, Sunita said,
I was on stage performing “Grease” when I was 16 years old. Sanjeev Kohli spotted me on stage and he came up to me and said, “I want to make an Indian pop album”. At first, I wasn’t interested in Indian pop music and I thought, ‘No, I can’t sing in Hindi, I was in British theater and a performer in, you know, nose-in-the-air stuff. (laugh). But a year and a half later, I woke up. I said, in order to reach the masses, I have to sing in Hindi. “
- After the success of the Hindi song “Paree Hoon Main”, her fans started calling her Suneeta Paree Rao.
- She has a long association with an NGO called Population First. She has been working for ‘Laadli’, an initiative to save the girl child. In June 2014, she participated in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon to raise funds for Laadli events.
- In her free time, she enjoys reading and drawing.
- In 2017, she revealed to the media that her song “Paree Hoon Main” was used in a TV commercial for Shah Rukh Khan without her consent. She further stated that her songs were misused and wrongly portrayed in advertisements. In an interview, she said of the incident,
