Ujda Chaman and Bala Controversy
Both films, Sunny Singh’s Ujda Chaman and Ayushmann Khurana’s Bala, are based on the concept of premature male baldness. The two movies have very similar posters, concepts, and even release dates. The entire controversy was over copyright issues and conflicting release dates. The producers of the film Ujda Chaman have claimed that the creators of the film Bala violated their copyright as they noticed some similarities in the trailer, dialogues and even the script. Initially, ‘Bala’ was scheduled to release on November 15, 2019, but the makers postponed it to November 8, 2019, a day after ‘Ujda Chaman’ was scheduled to release. To avoid a conflict, Ujda Chaman’s release date was postponed to a week before Bala and was scheduled to release on November 8, 2019. In an interview, when asked about the controversy, he said:
I had met Ayushmann Khurrana before these two films were released. He seemed pretty calm about what was going on, which made me realize that people should just focus on their work. Controversies aside, I got the recognition I wanted as an actor.
