SZA Announces Deluxe Version of Sophomore Album ‘SOS’ — Titled ‘Lana’ — Featuring ‘7 to 10’ New Songs

SZA fans welcome news of her upcoming album with “Open Arms.”

The Grammy winner, 33, announced during an album bash at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York on Friday night, attended by PEOPLE, that she will be releasing a deluxe version of her sophomore album SOS with seven to 10 new songs.

“So the deluxe is like a whole ‘nother album, and it’s called Flana. There’s seven to 10 songs and it’s coming out this fall,” said SZA, whose real name is Solána Rowe.

At the album bash, which was an RSVP-only event for fans of the R&B star, SZA included other surprises — such as performances of unreleased songs and fan favorites, as well as a brief appearance by Ice Spice.

“Look, we don’t really have a plan,” SZA said at the start of the event. “We’re just playing some songs from the deluxe, and we’re just going to play a few songs that you already know. It was really simple – I just wanted to do something free that was atmospheric because I was here in town. There is literally no other purpose for this.”

SZA says success of new album ‘SOS’ is ‘awesome’ because she ‘never thought’ fans would like it

The “Love Galore” singer later gave attendees a glimpse into her life, as she explained before performing her hit No. 1 “Kill Bill” who she “broke up with on a permanent level like two months ago.”

“The feeling was demonic. So when I sing this song, I sing it with a little more intention,” she added.

SZA took special time to create SOSreleasing the album more than five years after her critically acclaimed debut in 2017. Ctrl.

The Top Dawg Entertainment artist previously opened up to PEOPLE about how being bullied at school shaped her.

“They abused me because I wasn’t quiet, and at the same time I was annoying,” she said earlier this year. “I wasn’t that little sad victim, I was more attacked just because it said ‘What about you?’ energy… I always thought, ‘Oh my God.’ I will never have anyone’s approval in my life, this has to be my deciding factor, this has to be rock bottom.”

“I realized that all the things that made me feel so miserable were actually what made me who I am,” she added. “It’s like I didn’t go to prom because I didn’t have friends and I didn’t have anyone to go to prom with… [and now] it’s so strange what my life has turned into [having] bodyguard while traveling to parties.”

Today, SZA is a Grammy winner and Oscar nominee, and she recently released a music video for her standout SOS single “Snooze”.

In the August clip, directed by Bradley J. Calder, SZA falls in love and experiences heartbreak with lovers Justin Bieber, Benny Blanco, Young Mazin and Woody McClain.
