Before joining Sanfrecce Hiroshima in January 2013, Asano attended Yokkaichi Chuo Technical High School. He quickly wowed everyone with his abilities, winning the J1 league in his first season and the Japanese Super Cup in 2014. The later following year, he helped the squad win the championship for the second time and was awarded the J1 League Rookie of the Year.

Arsenal signed him in July 2016.
