Tamera Mowry Calls Scouting for Christmas a ‘Beautiful Example’ for Working Moms: ‘Life Is Not Perfect’ (Exclusive)

As a working mother for more than a decade, Tamera Mowry-Housley admits that some days go better than others.

“There are some days when you get it and you’re like, ‘Wow, I’m Supermom.’ Then there are days where it just doesn’t work out because life isn’t perfect,” the mom to son Aden, 11, and daughter Ariah, 9, tells PEOPLE. “You just have to hug, turn, love and pass.”

Mowry’s character in her new Hallmark movie Scouting for Christmas he knows it well. The actress, 46, plays Angela, a single mother who struggles to balance her career in real estate with getting her 10-year-old daughter Brooklyn on time to extracurricular schools, like Sunny Scouts.

Tia Mowry admits sister Tamera ‘isn’t that approachable’ but says ‘everything is good’ between them

But “she never gives up,” Mowry says of Angela. “You have moms who can be there for every waking moment of their child’s life, and that’s wonderful. There are also working moms trying to make ends meet and live our dreams. Everyone has different ways, and you have to do what’s right for you and your family. But as long as you’re doing your best, you’re doing enough.”

Angela also doesn’t let one particularly judgmental mom in the troop get her down—the one who’ll send the teacher a scathing email when their child gets an A.

“She lets them know, ‘Hey, I’m doing my best. I love my child and we got this,’ Mowry says. “Because quantity and quality are two different things. There are families who spend a lot of time, but they don’t really spend quality time. Like, are you present? Are you really there?’ That’s what’s important.”

Mowry admits she’s gotten a bit of flak from other moms herself because she’s a career woman.

“I experienced that, and while I was acting, I thought about my mom, who is like that,” she says. “I call them ‘moms,’ moms who believe their way is the only way. What I love about this movie is that it shows that this is not true. I wanted to set a good example for us working moms that it’s okay. The balance is never truly perfect.”
