Tamron Hall Says Her Son Moses, 5, Loves Cooking Together and Reveals His Favorite Dish (Exclusive)

Time in the kitchen is precious for Tamron Hall and her son, Moses.

While I was talking to PEOPLE at the inauguration Food and wine Classic in Charleston on September 27th Tamron Hall the talk show host opened up about the relationship she and her five-year-old child share.

“He likes to cook. I think he would consider himself a chef, at least that’s what he says at home. ‘Mom, I’m a chef!’” she says.

Hall published her first cookbook, Self-confident cook with friend and James Beard Award winner Lish Steiling on September 3rd. The book, Hall says, is a collection of recipes and stories to help novice or nervous cooks find their footing in the kitchen.

“There is a photo in the cookbook that is a real moment of us downstairs playing table tennis. We’re all at the table with some of the snacks we have and recipes from the book, but it’s a real family moment for us,” she says.

Hall says that while some 5-year-olds have a “pass the chicken fingers” mentality, she sees a different approach to food than Moses. “My child has the most sophisticated palate,” she says.

“His favorite dish in the cookbook is bucatini,” Hall says of his recipe for pasta with pomodoro and burrata. “But I think he likes curry chicken and dumplings, right after our bucatini in the book.”

She was inspired by her cookbook — and one of Mojsi’s ​​favorite dinners — when deciding which recipes to prepare during her cooking seminar with Sterling during Food and wine Classic Charleston events: On the menu: branzino and a special blueberry-lime galette.

“Believe it or not, he’s not even a candy kid,” says Hall. “He loves a little [kick of] taste. I don’t know where he got it from because I’m a lover of sweets, and so is his dad [husband Steven Greener]. But he dives into everything salty.”

In August, Hall made fans laugh when she revealed a funny food story involving Moses.

In a video on Instagram, the veteran journalist revealed the unexpected delivery she received thanks to her son.. “A few minutes ago I was at work and someone knocked on my door, and it was my grocery delivery for the week,” the author said in the video. and added that she would “almost cry”.

“I looked down at my groceries: my son stole the app — he’s 5 — my son ordered 75 yellow onions for a total value of almost $90,” she revealed.

“What should I do with 75 yellow onions?” Hall asked her companions as she dug her hand into a large bag filled with onions. She then hilariously threw a bag of onions on the ground and exclaimed, “This is a whole bag of onions!”

Later that day, Hall shared an update on what she called “Oniongate” — and her clever solution. In another Instagram Reel, the Emmy winner documented that she and Moses were in the car on their way to their local food pantry.

“Seventy-five onions, we’re going to donate them to the food pantry,” Hall said.

While you were on Food and wine Classic, Hall — former co-host Today’s third hour — also shared with PEOPLE her reactions to the news that Hoda Kotb is leaving her current role on the long-running morning show.

“I understand that. I know. I understand that a lot,” says Hall, 54. “Being a mom — being a little older mom, you want to give your child, your family as much time and love as possible.”

On September 26, Kotb announced that she would be leaving Today to spend more time with his family, but will remain in his current NBC roles until early 2025.

“I think it’s a beautiful decision that wasn’t easy to make, but I’m proud of it,” says Hall.
