Tan France Says Queer Eye Dynamic Will Be ‘Interesting’ After Jeremiah Brent Replaced Bobby Berk (Exclusive)

Tan France can’t wait to see how Jeremiah Brent fits in A strange eye honor!

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the British-American fashion designer, 40, was happy to discuss how Season 9 of the hit Netflix makeover series will be “really interesting” with the cast changing.

Brent was announced as the show’s new interior design pro in February, replacing Bobby Berk, who announced he would be leaving the show after season eight in November — the only cast member from the reboot to do so. France insisted it was nothing the Fab Five couldn’t handle.

“It’s going to be really interesting to see what this dynamic is like with the new cast member,” he told PEOPLE at the launch of Citi’s Citi Shop. “However, we all know [Jeremiah], we all love him, so we feel really confident about this season. I think it will be great,”

As an HGTV host Design by Nate & Jeremiah and Nate and Jeremiah Design, project in which she stars alongside husband Nate Berkus, Brent (39) is no stranger to makeover shows.

“He’s the best,” France tells PEOPLE A strange eyenew costar. “I love him so much. We are so excited for him. We haven’t all had a chance to get together, but we will next week and I’m really excited.”

According to Naturally tan author, when filming begins “in about a week,” it will be the first time the cast — which also includes Karamo Brown, Antonio Porowski and Jonathan Van Ness — will get a chance to be together since Berk’s departure.

In an extensive interview with vanity fair published in January, Berk, 42, addressed rumors that there were ongoing problems between him and France.

“Tan and I had a moment. A situation happened, between Tan and me, and it has nothing to do with the show. It was something personal that was brewing — and nothing romantic, just to be clear,” Berk said at the time.

“We became like siblings – and siblings will always fight.”

After Rolling stone published a story that included allegations that France and Porowski were campaigning for Brent to replace Berk, according to three unnamed sources, the fashion expert spoke out about the situation on Instagram.

“Yeah, I heard what’s going on and I just want to address one point, real quick,” France told Ree on Instagram. “My former colleague’s dismissal had nothing to do with my attempt to hire my friend. Netflix, the production company, gave a lot of time to the actors. I didn’t ask my friend for a job.”

According to France, Brent was chosen because “he is the best person for the job”.

The A strange eye cast are looking forward to heading to Las Vegas after spending the last two seasons in New Orleans, France told PEOPLE, and not just because of the new “heroes” they’ll be helping.

“We’ve been there a long time,” he said. “But we’re always somewhere hot and humid, so at least this is somewhere hot and not humid this time, it’s going to be so nice.”
