Taylor Swift Attended Her First Chiefs Game 1 Year Ago Today — Look Back on Their Relationship Since Going Public

  • Taylor Swift is celebrating the anniversary of her first Kansas City Chiefs game
  • The singer cheered on boyfriend Travis Kelce for the first time in the Chiefs’ win over the Bears on September 24, 2023 at Arrowhead Stadium
  • Since then, the couple has been enjoying a whirlwind romance in the public eye

One year ago today, Taylor Swift attended the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Chicago Bears game on September 24, 2023, sparking a whirlwind of speculation about her relationship with tight end Travis Kelce.

When the 34-year-old singer was first spotted at Arrowhead Stadium, her romance with Kelce, who is also 34, was not confirmed. At the time, the Chiefs star revealed that he tried to give Swift his phone number when he saw her at the concert on July 8, but ended up being “disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows.”

While Kelce played it low-key as rumors continued to swirl that he and Swift were spending time together, his brother Jason said he “can’t comment” on the Sept. 14 speculation, claiming, “I don’t really know what’s going on there,” about his love life his brother.

Three days before Swift’s first game, Kelce addressed the Swift rumors during an interview with The Pat McAfee Show, telling the host that he “took the ball in [Swift’s] court” by inviting her to see him play at Arrowhead Stadium, where she previously performed during her Eras tour.

To the surprise of most fans who assumed Swift would turn down the offer to travel to Kansas City, the “Fortnight” singer shocked NFL viewers and Swifties alike by showing up at the game and cheering on Kelce’s touchdown in his family suite with his mother, Donna.

After the game — in which the Chiefs routed the Bears 41-10 — Swift and Kelce were seen exiting together before leaving the stadium in his 1970 Chevelle 408 Stroker convertible.

The couple kept their relationship status unclear as Swift continued to support Kelce at Chiefs games. “Shout out to Taylor for pulling out. That was pretty cheeky,” Kelce said on the Sept. 27, 2023, episode of his podcast.

Swift returned to cheer on the Chiefs a week later on Oct. 1, bringing along celebrity friends Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carptenter, Sophie Turner and Antoni Porowski to MetLife Stadium for Kansas City’s road game against the New York Jets .

The NFL began participating in the fan frenzy surrounding their relationship before the Jets game, using Swift’s song “Welcome to New York” in a Swift-themed ad.

Swift’s commitment to supporting Kelce has grown ever since. A day after attending the Los Angeles premiere of her movie Eras Tour, she flew to Kansas City to watch him play for the third week in a row.

Two days later, on October 14, the couple suddenly appeared on Saturday night live during a trip to New York City, before there was no longer any doubt about the status of their relationship. After the show, Swift and Kelce dined at the Waverly Inn restaurant and were seen holding hands as they left the restaurant.

Swift continued to attend Chiefs games — 13 in all, culminating in their victory in Super Bowl LVIII — throughout the season. And Kelce returned the favor when he could. On Nov. 11, during the Chiefs’ bye week, Kelce was seen in the VIP section of Swift’s show in Buenos Aires, sitting with the singer’s dad, Scott.

During the show, Swift cheered on Kelce as she changed the lyrics of her latest song “Karma” to “Karma’s a guy from the Chiefs coming straight to my house,” prompting Kelce to break into a big smile.

The following month, Swift discussed her relationship with Kelce publicly for the first time during an interview as TimePerson of the Year for 2023, revealing that “it all started when Travis very sweetly put me in his voice on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell.”

She also clarified that in September, when she first saw Kelce at the Kansas City Chiefs game, they were already a couple. “I think some people think they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to start a first date hard,” Swift added.

And in her speech at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month, Swift thanked Kelce for his support of her music, marking the first time she had spoken his name publicly.

“Something I’ll always remember is that when I’d end the take and say ‘Cut,’ and we’d end that shot, I’d always just hear somebody cheering and like, ‘Wow!’ On the other side of the studio where we were shooting it and that one person was my boyfriend Travis,” Swift said while accepting the video of the year award.

“Everything this man touches turns into happiness and fun and magic so I want to thank him for adding that to our shoot because I’ll always remember that,” she added of Kelce.

This season, Swift attended the Chiefs’ first two home games at Arrowhead Stadium, but chose not to travel to Atlanta for the Week 3 game in Atlanta. In total, the singer cheered on her boyfriend at 15 games since the beginning of their relationship, and there are sure to be more.
