Taylor Swift Reveals She Wasn’t Planning to Announce New ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Album at Grammys

Swifties might have had to wait for Taylor Swift’s new album announcement if she hadn’t taken home a Grammy.

During a night at one of her Eras Tour stops in Tokyo on February 7, the pop megastar, 34, told the crowd that she actually plans to reveal the news of her 11th studio album Department for tortured poets in Tokyo if she didn’t win the golden gramophone.

“I had this plan in my head and I told my friends — I told Jack, but I didn’t tell a lot of other people,” Swift told the crowd during Forever set of her concert, according to a video posted by fans. “I thought, ‘Okay, so if I’m lucky enough to win one thing tonight, I’m just going to do it. I’m just going to announce my new album.'”

She added: “I told myself if I’m lucky enough to win something tonight, I’m just going to do it. I’m just going to post it. My backup plan was to post it tonight in Tokyo!”

During the set, Swift also revealed that she was working on her latest LP right after she finished Midnight.

“I worked on it for about two years, I continued to work on it during the American tour. When it was perfect in my opinion – when it was good enough for you – I finished it. I’m so, so excited. You’ll be able to hear it soon, soon we will hear it together – said the singer of the group Maroon to the audience.

Taylor Swift makes history by winning 4th album of the year at the 2024 Grammys: ‘Unbelievably Blown Away’

As the “Mastermind” singer accepted her 13th Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album — her “lucky number” — Swift announced a brand new album, Department for Tortured Poets, which is scheduled for April 19. (Later in the show, she made history by becoming the first artist ever to win four Album of the Year trophies, this time for Midnight.)

“I want to thank the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way. But I know the way the Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans,” she said. “So I want to thank the fans by telling you a secret I’ve been keeping from you for the past two years, which is that my brand new album is coming out on April 19th.”

Swift added: “It’s called Department for tortured poets. I’m going to post the cover right backstage. Thank you. I love you. Thank you.”
