A Chicago-area technology CEO died after falling on stage at a packed company event in India last week.
Vistex CEO Sanjay Shah, 56, and company president Raju Datla, 52, were celebrating the software company’s silver jubilee when the incident occurred Thursday, according to CBS affiliate WBBM-TV and The Times of India.

According to the CBS affiliate in India, 700 people were in attendance.
Both were in a hanging cage when the chain holding the cage snapped on one side, causing both to fall onto the stage, according to Fox Business and WBBM-TV.

“At the time of the accident, music was playing and Shah and Raju were waving to their staff as they were being taken down,” a police official said. The Times of India.

The New York Post reported that the cage began to sway as it hovered near the beam.

Shah died in hospital after the terrifying incident, while Datla, who sustained a severe head injury, remains in a critical condition, according to reports.

The New York Post reported that officials are now investigating.
