Ted Danson's 2 Children: All About Kate and Alexis

Ted Danson is the proud father of his children Kate and Alexis Danson.

The actor had his two daughters in 1979 and 1985 respectively with his second wife Casey Coates. Ted eventually divorced Kate and Alexis’ mother in 1993, and two years later, The Good place star married actress Mary Steenburgen after they reconnected on set Pontiac Moon.

Ted is also stepfather to Steenburgen’s children, Lilly Walton and Charlie McDowell, and the blended family has supported each other over the years.

Ted and Coates had their first child, daughter Kate, on December 24, 1979.

After graduating from ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California, Kate followed in her father’s footsteps and pursued a creative career in Hollywood.

However, in 2013 she said New York Post that she went through a “rebellious” phase in which she tried to turn her back on acting because of her father’s career. She explained: “I thought, ‘No, I’m going to be an individual.’ But then I started realizing that acting is what I want to do… it brings me a lot of satisfaction.”

Kate said she has received support from Ted and Steenburgen, who will speak to her on the phone. Her father also gave her plenty of career advice, including to “have fun and enjoy yourself.”

“When I told my dad that this is what I definitely want to do, he said something like, ‘Welcome to the family business,'” she added. “And I feel like I got to know him better, now that I’m acting… That was really sweet.”

She married director and producer Jesse Bochco in 2009, but the couple split in 2015. Kate lived in Los Angeles, but officially moved to Ojai, California in January 2022 on social media.

Although Ted and Kate don’t often share details of their relationship publicly, she made a rare Instagram post about her father in October 2019, reacting to his arrest with Jane Fonda at a climate change protest.

Ted and Coates welcomed their second child together, daughter Alexis, in June 1985.

In a 2009 interview with PRO MOTION, Alexis opened up about growing up with a famous father, telling the company, “It’s not normal or natural to pay attention to my family all the time, but I’m truly blessed with a family that loves me. .”

Alexis also shared some memories from visiting her dad on set. “It was more difficult when my dad was working cheers because they were filming it after my bedtime, but when I had to go, I was always very excited,” she said.
