As an athlete, Sloane Stephens has “tried just about everything” when it comes to body care. More precisely, the tennis champion, who has a Grand Slam title, spent 15 years testing the latest beauty and wellness products.
it is a long time a list of rituals that includes a multi-step “all-in shower,” red light therapy, dry brushing, cooling, saunas, and cryotherapy—all of which she did to help her body recover from grueling days of travel, training, and competition.
However, Stephens, 31, admits that her complex routine was actually devoid of the “most basic” but necessary steps. So she created her own products to fill those holes, which is how Doc & Glo, her body care brand for all genders, was born.

“This was four years in the making,” Stephens tells PEOPLE. “Creating custom formulations, all from scratch, was a process. I didn’t want to rush anything. It was very much my passion project: beauty has always been something I’ve been very passionate about.”
After all, the question on her mind was, “What am I really trying to accomplish?” which led her to create a universal brand for “movers, shakers and everything in between”.
Doc & Glo’s debut products are deodorant no. 3161 Game Changer ($18) and 24/7 Hustle Deodorant Body Mist ($22).
The fragrance-free spray neutralizes odor while working to improve the skin’s barrier and protect it from environmental stressors and bacteria.
The roll-on deodorant — a must-have for Sloane, whose underarms are constantly on display as she dominates the tennis court — is made with an aluminum-free, fragrance-free formula that also neutralizes body odor, brightens skin and soothes. irritation. Bonus: it leaves no white marks or deposits.
Sloane says she tested each when playing her “toughest” matches.

Both products have easy-to-read ingredient lists that align with Stephens’ clear vision of beauty.
“I am a very simple girl, [and] very careful with the products I use and [the ones] which I recommend to my friends and family.”
Sustainability is also a big part of the Doc & Glo brand. Stephens assures that she and her team “were not wasteful queens.” In addition to manufacturing (during which imperfect formulas are refined for use, not thrown out), Stephens also makes sure to house her products in refillable units and reusable packaging so customers can responsibly restock. “There are no more single-use plastics,” she adds.

Although she wanted to appeal to the masses with her beauty venture, Stephens included some small details that relate to her personal life as well. The cute name itself is a nod to her grandparents, a former gynecologist who always told her to go natural with deodorants because she was battling hidradenitis suppurativa, a skin condition that causes painful bumps deep in the skin, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

During this trip, Stephens discovered a lot about the beauty business. What she quickly realized is that “entrepreneurship is not for the weak”.
“Learning a new job is a whole different beast,” she tells PEOPLE. “It’s finding dealers, cold emailing people, sending messages on LinkedIn, finding the right manufacturer — things like that.” Even when plans backfired, she always found a way to “turn around” and be nimble.
“It’s definitely something you have to be fully prepared for,” she adds, adding that she is her own boss.

Stephens also learned the importance of work-life balance and says anyone who wants to should indulge their beauty and grooming routines. Her motto: “Don’t cheat yourself, heal yourself.”
“You only have one life to live, so treat yourself like a queen, like a princess,” she says. “Once you realize that if you can do something for yourself every day, you’ll just feel better.”
