A HUGE wave engulfed a cruise ship full of Britons and forced the passengers into flight during a fierce storm off the British coast.

The MS Maud was sailing about 162 miles off the west coast of Denmark and about 217 miles off the east coast of Britain in the North Sea when the monster wave hit.

Power went out on a Norwegian cruise ship and windows were shattered as 400 passengers and crew members were violently scattered.

The ship, which belongs to cruise company HX, a unit of Norway’s Hurtigruten Group, became unmanageable and had to be towed to Germany.

Fortunately, there are no reports of serious injuries.

A passenger managed to capture the dramatic moment in which a terrifying wave of freaks is seen crashing into a luxury cruise ship.

An unnamed passenger told the Daily Mail: “I was showing the camera from the bridge on the TV to try to stop the vertigo and I randomly decided to film it!

“As soon as the wave hit, the TV screen went black and the ship’s distress signal went off, so I knew something was wrong.”

They added that they expected it to be a “rough ride” after encountering several other big waves beforehand.

According to passengers, people, fixed tables and chairs were sliding on the floor.

On the cruise ship, the windows were broken, and the products were scattered on the floor.

According to the people on board, a major cleaning operation has been underway since Friday.

Other stomach-churning footage shared by passengers revealed the extent of the choppy conditions, with the ship seen rocking aggressively up and down as huge waves battered it.

The video shared on Facebook received dozens of comments from fellow passengers, with one writing: “We’re watching movies in our room. Every time we move we’re almost flying.”

The MS Maud left Floroe in Norway on Thursday ahead of its return to the UK before being hit by a wave.

Despite the power outage, the ship’s main engine was still running, allowing the ship to be operated manually from the engine room.

There were 266 passengers and 131 crew members on board.

A spokesman for the Danish Joint Rescue Coordination Center (DJRC) confirmed that everyone was safe.

They added that the ship of the civil rescue company Esvagt managed to connect the towing line to the cruiser.

“The Esvagta ship is slowly towing it towards Bremerhafen, Germany at a speed of around 8-9 knots,” the spokesman said.

The ship is equipped with technology that its website claims makes it “exceptionally suitable” for cruises between Norway and the British Isles.

MS Maud embarked on a 14-day Northern Lights expedition after setting sail from Tilbury on 9 December.

It was due to return to Essex Harbor on Saturday, December 23, although it remains to be seen whether there have been any changes to the schedule since then.

The area was hit by hurricane-force winds blowing from the northwest late Thursday.

However, it is forecast to continue on Friday, the Danish Meteorological Institute said.

Last month, cruise ship passengers required CPR and suffered broken bones when 30-foot waves crashed into their ship.

About 100 of the 1,000 people aboard the Spirit of Discovery were injured when bad weather triggered the ship’s safety system.

And terrifying video shows passengers screaming for help as the cruise ship sinks in rough seas.

One passenger, aged 75, died during the tragedy in November near the capital of the Bahamas, Nassau.
