Giamatti, 56, joked in his speech: “Oh my God, so many stairs. Too many stairs. My knees are shot, I tell you. Up and down all night, standing and sitting all night, my knees. I’ll never be in John Wick 5 at this pace.”
“This must be the first time that this award has been given to an actor who played a man who smells like fish,” he joked further about his professor character.
After sharing a few thank yous, he said, “I want to say hello to my son Samuel, who recently graduated from college. And it’s a movie about a teacher. I play a teacher in it. My whole family, they’re teachers. All of them, generations back. ”
He continued: “Teachers are good people. We have to respect them. They do good things. It’s a hard job, so this is for the teachers too. Thank you, people. Thank you.”

Giamatti Award for Golden Globe 2024 The Holdovershis sixth in addition to the previous two victories, is special considering that he received the first recognition for Sideways 2005 — the second time he played the leading man for director Alexander Payne (Elections).
A reunion after nearly 20 years proved to be a winning combination again, with David Hemingson’s holiday hit also in the running for best comedy or musical.
Starring first-time actor Dominic Sessa and first-time Globe nominee — and winner — Da’Vine Joy Randolph, The Holdovers features Giamatti as a stubborn (and cross-eyed) professor at a fictional New England boarding school in 1970.

Cage (59), who has now won a Golden Globe five times in total, was also in the category. Of that he won once in 1996 for Departure from Las Vegasleading dramatic performance for which he also took home an Oscar.
A dream scenario portrays Cage as an ordinary biology professor who inexplicably begins to appear in the dreams of many people, both strangers and acquaintances. It stars Julianne Nicholson as his wife, Tim Meadows as his colleague and Michael Cera as his PR manager.

His third Golden Globe in just a few years, Chalamet, 28, leads Willy Wonka’s origin story Wonkadirector and co-writer Paul King (Paddington). Starring Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Colman and Hugh Grant as the Oompa-Loompa, it’s a musical film that serves as the origin story of Roald Dahl’s favorite chocolatier Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Chalamet was also nominated for a 2018 Golden Globe Call me by your name and in 2019 Beautiful Boy. He also recorded an Oscar nomination for the first one. He will next reprise his role as Paul Atreides in Dina: The second part and to play Bob Dylan in an upcoming biopic.

Damon, 53, is not the first time at the Golden Globes. As an actor, he has been nominated seven times, winning in 2016 for Martian. As a screenwriter, he took home the Globe along with Ben Affleck for Good Will Hunting 1998 — a feat they repeated at the next Oscars.
Air, also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Comedy or Musical, featured Damon’s on-screen reunion with Affleck, who helmed the film as director. Written by Alex Convery, it tells the real-life story of the creation of Nike, Inc.’s Air Jordan line of basketball shoes in 1984 with Michael Jordan.

Phoenix’s name has often appeared on Golden Globe nomination lists, both for drama and comedy. Of his seven awards, the 49-year-old actor won in 2006 for his portrayal of Johnny Cash in the To walk the line and 2020 to play the titular role in Joker.
Fans might be surprised to see that Phoenix is recognized for A24’s Ari Aster horror-style hit Beau is afraid instead of his other big film in 2023, Ridley Scott Napoleon. But his surreal performance by Beau Wassermann had audiences on the edge of their seats.

It’s been 20 years since Wright last appeared as a Golden Globe contender — in the 2003 TV adaptation of the film. Angels in Americafor which he won.
American fiction it brought the 58-year-old actor the best recognition of his career. Adapted from the 2001 book by Percival Everett, written and directed by Cord Jefferson Deletion, Wright stars as Thelonious “Monk” Ellison, a frustrated novelist who writes a stereotypically black book out of spite, only to have it become a bigger hit than anything else written under his name. It stars Sterling K. Brown, Issa Rae, Erika Alexander, Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Uggams.
